Oratory Youths obtained a 4-0 win over Ghaxaq in a match from the Preliminary round of the MFA Boost Diesel FA Trophy and they will now face Gozitan side Kercem Ajax in the match from the first round of the competition. Oratory dominated over their opponents for most of the ninety minutes and paved the way to the qualification with two goals scored during the first period. Oratory played the last part of the match with a player less on the field but the hosts were not demoralized and continued keep control of play until the final whistle. Oratory’s Bartomeu Perello Palou and Ralph Ebube Okpokwu scored a brace each.
Oratory took command of play from the vry beginning and could have opened the score on 11 minutes but Javier Polo Longarella hit badly from an ideal position following an inviting low pass in the area by Ralph Ebube Okpokwo. Ghaxaq replied through a free kick by player coach Florin Anton that ended just high. On 16 minutes Oratory were awarded a penalty for handling by Christopher Zammit following a corner action and Bartomeu Perello Palou opened the score with his shot from the spot kick. Three minutes later Ghaxaq’s Florin Anton had an attempt from long distance that missed the target and on 26 minutes Oratory’s Joshua Buttigieg had a good shot that ended wide. Oratory doubled the score on 29 minutes through Bartomeu Perello Palou who entered the area with a personal action and netted with a low shot. On 33 minutes Ghaxaq had a free kick by Florin Anton that was neutralized by goalie Richard Sammut. In the following minutes Oratory’s Ralph Ebube had two attempts on separate occasions that were both blocked by goalie Ludvic Fardell.
In the third minute of play of the second period Oratory practically made sure of the qualification by scoring the third goal. Ralph Ebube Okpokwo took a through pass from Kerstin Grima, entered the area, passed around the goalkeeper and placed into an open goal. Ghaxaq replied through a shot by Florin Anton on 58 minutes that was blocked by goalie Richard Sammut and Oratory’s Ralph Ebube Okpokwo had an excellent attempt that was turned to a corner with difficulty by goalie Ludvic Fardell. Oratory ended with a player less on the field on 64 minutes when Marcos Fernandez Bengoechea was sent off for a foul on Ghaxaq’s substitute Noel Bilocca. The hosts however continued to dictate matters and increased their lead on 72 minutes through a tap-in by Ralph Ebube Okpokwo following a move inside the area by Bartomeu Perello Palou. Ghaxaq went very close to score a consolation goal in the third minute of stoppage time but Ian Calleja concluded badly form a good position following a prolonged action inside Oratory’s area.
