In the first match from the third round of the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division Oratory Youths and SK Victoria Wanderers earned a point each from a draw of two goals. This was an important derby match where the two sides from Victoria needed points beyond the rivalry interest. The Youths are aiming to re-open their chances to move away from the bottom place on the table while the Wanderers are seeking points to consolidate their third spot and keep a lead over the other teams behind them on the table. The final score did not satisfy either side as the Youths remain four points behind the team above them on the table, while Victoria remains without a win from the last five matches including this encounter against Oratory.
The match turned out to be well contested and the outcome remained uncertain. Oratory seemed more determined during the first period but exposed their limitations in attack as they struggled to create serious scoring opportunities. The Wanderers saw more of the ball after the break but their strikers were often erratic and failed to capitalise on their superiority on the field of play. The Wanderers ended up trailing their opponents following a mishap in their defence but their efforts were rewarded and saved the result with a goal scored during stoppage time.
