The direct clash between the two teams who were occupying the bottom places on the table before this match, Oratory Youths and Ghajnsielem, ended in a 4-1 win for the latter so the Blacks rejoined other teams who are struggling to stay away from the red zone. With this result, Oratory remain at the bottom of the table without a point from five matches so they cannot improve their position on the table before the end of the first round.
This was Ghajnsielem’s last match of the first round where they were seeking to move the table to stop a series of four consecutive defeats that arrived after a win registered in their opening match of the campaign. In this match, the Blacks suffered Oratory’s play during the opening stages but as time passed, they gained confidence and managed to end the first half with a two-goal lead. Ghajnsielem were well deployed at the defensive department so that their striker Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa, who was making a return to the starting lineup following a period when he was recovering from an injury, together with the support of his teammates in attack, took advantage of some open spaces within Oratory’s territory and became a continuous threat to their opponents. Ghajnsielem’s deserved win matured with two goals scored in each half as Oratory only managed to re-open the issue for a few minutes during the second period’s opening phase.

Timeline:
Oratory seemed more motivated during the first part of the encounter and produced some good opportunities where they could have opened the score but Ghajnsielem resisted well and capitalised from two mishaps by Oratory’s rearguard near the end of the first half to pave the way for the win.
1’ Oratory could have scored an early goal, but Mattheus Vinicius Do Prado’s good shot was blocked to a corner.
7’ Ghajnsielem replied with a fine move by Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa who entered the area from the left flank but from his inviting low cross, Kenney Hili’s shot from an ideal position was blocked by Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli.
20’ The Youths were again dangerous through a shot by Christian Vella that ended just over the crossbar.
23’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg was well placed and saved an attempt from a free kick by Rian Almeida Lopes.
25’ Thew Blacks threatened Oratory’s defence with a shot by Kenny Hili but the ball ended away from goal.
35’ (0-1) Ghajnsielem opened the score when Oratory’s defence failed to clear a corner kick by Alberto Xuereb and James Tabone was at the right place to conclude in goal from close distance.
44’ (0-2) The Blacks doubled the score when Oratory’s goalie cleared badly the ball at the edge of his area and Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa took full advantage of the situation and headed easily into an open goal.

Second Half
After the break, Oratory tried to produce a reaction and reduced the deficit during the opening minutes but Ghajnsielem were not demoralised and replied by scoring two goals without a reply from their opponents so that the Blacks put their minds at rest from the three points at an early stage.
4’ (1-2) Oratory opened their chances to save the result when they reduced the score with a goal that arrived through a close ranged header by Rian Almeida Lopes when Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg failed to clear a cross from the left flank by Mattheus Vinicius Do Prado.
7’ (1-3) Ghajnsielem re-established the two-goal lead when Oratory’s central defender Luhis Gabriel Santos Silva hesitated to clear the ball and lost possession following the pressure by Haraan Hajazan Goncalves Barbosa who surprised the goalkeeper with a fine strike.
13’ Oratory replied with a good shot by Christoff Caruana that was well blocked by Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg.
18’ (1-4) The Blacks made sure of the win by increasing their lead to three goals as Joseph Onyeka Ezigbo passed inside Oratory’s area from the left flank and his low cross Naim Ibrahim Belhadj surprised the defence when he netted with a back heel.
23’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli denied the Blacks from adding another goal with a good save following an effort by Joseph Onyeka Ezigbo.
37’ Ghajnsielem missed an opportunity to score the fifth goal when Joseph Onyeka Ezigbo entered Oratory’s area from the right flank but from his inviting low cross, substitute Decon Attard controlled badly and failed to conclude towards goal so that goalie Angelo Brignoli recovered his position and saved the danger.
42’ Oratory could have made the score more respectable but an attempt from a free kick by Rian Almedia Lopes ended away from goal.
