Kercem Ajax scored three goals in each half to obtain three easy points from a 6-0 win over Munxar Falcons in the main match from Match-Day 2 of the lower category.

This was the second match between the two sides this season as the favourites for promotion Kercem Ajax and the main challengers Munxar Falcons met each other in the final of the 2nd Division Challenge Cup before the beginning of the league.  This match was considered as an important clash which could give a clear indication of the real potential of the two sides as they both won their respective opening match of the campaign.  However, Ajax once again dominated their opponents as they practically put their minds at rest from the three points by converting their effective possession into a three-goal lead before the end of the first half.  Munxar struggled to neutralise Kercem’s efforts and they never gave the impression that they could recover the score so their main objective was that of keeping a respectable score.

With this result, Kercem Ajax are now sharing the top position with St Lawrence Spurs, both on maximum points from two matches, while Munxar Falcons remain with three points from two matches.

Timeline:

Kercem paved the way to the win by scoring a goal after a few minutes of play so that Munxar seemed demoralised and continued to suffer the pressure of their opponents.

3’ (1-0) Kercem took the lead when Andrew Mizzi put pressure on Munxar’s goalkeeper and the striker took possession and netted easily in goal.

25’ (2-0) The Ajax doubled the score through an excellent strike by Samuel Azzopardi that ended out of the reach of Munxar’s goalkeeper.

33’ (3-0) The third goal for Kercem arrived through a personal action by Cesar  Velez Da Silva who avoided Munxar’s defenders before hitting towards goal.

38’ (crossbar) The Ajax could have added another goal but an attempt from a free kick by Andre Azzopardi was stopped by the woodwork.

43’ Munxar’s goalkeeper Joel Micallef denied Kercem from scoring another goal with a fine intervention to block an attempt from close distance by Cesar Velez Da Silva.

44’  Kercem went very close to score the fourth goal when Munxar’s defence failed o clear the ball from the goalmouth from a corner action but the close ranged shot by Jason Theuma with the goalkeeper beaten was cleared off the fatal line by defender Daniel Azzopardi.

HT (3-0)

Second Half

The match lost much of the interest after the break as Munxar failed to produce a reaction while Kercem continued to dictate matters and made sure of the win by scoring three more goals.

2’ Munxar’s goalie Joel Micallef was again called to make a difficult intervention to turn to a corner an effort by Cesar Velez Da Silva.

11’ (4-0) Kercem scored their fourth goal through a cross-shot from the left flank by Andre Azzopardi that surprised Munxar’s goalie who also seemed out of his position.

15’ (5-0) Kercem kept insisting and increased their lead through a header from close distance by Cesar Velez Da Silva.

37’ (6-0) Kercem made it a half dozen when Antonio Xuereb ran towards Munxar’s area with a personal initiative and placed in goal with a fine lob over the goalkeeper.

44’ Munxar’s best opportunity to score a consolation goal arrived through a strike by substitute Samwel Muscat bit the ball ended just over the crossbar.

45’ Kecem went very close to score a seventh goal but an attempt from a free kick by Samuel Azzopardi was saved with difficulty to a corner by Munxar’s goalie Joel Micallef.
