GFA BOV Player of the Month
Christian Mercieca: Qala Saints FC
The Qala Saints striker Christian Mercieca has been chosen as the BOV Gozitan football player of the month for September 2024. This honour was awarded at the Bank of Valletta Victoria Gozo office by Ms. Charmaine Borg, BOV Regional Manager for Gozo.
Christian Mercieca, is twenty-seven years old and joined Qala Saints in January of two thousand and twenty-four after experience in the championships in Malta. He started his football career in the nursery of Oratory Youths. After a period playing with major teams in the Youth FA in Malta, he returned to play football in Gozo where he achieved success during the period he played with Victoria Hotspurs. During his time with Qala Saints, he played a leading role in the attack and helped the team to be a protagonist in the championship and other Gozitan football competitions.
At the beginning of the 2024/2025 season, Christian Mercieca played an important part in the results obtained by Qala Saints to show from the first games the intention of becoming champions of Gozitan football for the first time in the club’s history. Mercieca was a protagonist in the first game of the season when in the final of the GFA Super Cup he scored both goals for Qala to beat Nadur Youngsters with a score of two to one, during September. He continued to be consistent in good form and played an important part in Qala starting the first division BOV Gozo Football league with two consecutive wins. They started the league with a 3-1 win against SK Victoria Wanderers and in the next game, they won 2-0 against the champions Nadur Youngsters. During the same month, Christian Mercieca had positive performances with the Gozo football team that represented Malta in games from the UEFA Regions Cup held in Liguria, Italy.
Christian Mercieca chose the Arka Foundation to benefit from the Bank of Valletta’s contribution linked to this honour.
