In the last match from Match-Day 8 of the BOV Gozo Football League of the second
division, Sannat Lions and Munxar Falcons earned a point each from a draw of two
goals. With this result, Sannat took a lead over the contenders for second place,
while Munxar obtained their first positive result after a series of disappointing defeats.

For this match,h Munxar were limited in their formation since a number of regular players
were missing for different reasons, while Sannat were aiming to maintain a positive
momentum gained from the results obtained in the previous matches. The match
turned out to be well contested where the two defensive departments prevailed over the
respective strikers so that serious scoring opportunities throughout the ninety
minutes were rare and the final score was a just result.

Timeline:

Munxar were more adventurous during the opening stages but Sannat confirmed their
good moment of form through their defensive departments and most of the time they
neutralised Munxar’s play. The Falcons however created the better scoring
opportunities and could have entered the break in the lead.
10’ (0-1) Munxar opened the score when Samwel Muscat delivered the ball inside
Sannat’s area from a free kick and Luke Meilak was at the right place to fire the ball
into the net.
20’ (1-1) Sannat had a good reaction and levelled the sore when Eric Gauci released
Aud-Gustine James Obaje and the latter concluded in goal from an ideal position.
34’ Munxatr could have created more danger but a header by Kenneth Mizzi ended
wide.
42’ (penalty missed – saved) Munxar had a golden scoring opportunity when they
were awarded a penalty for a foul by Aaron Azzopardi on Kenneth Mizzi but Sannat’s
goalie Kyler Attard made two consecutive interventions to save the shot from the
penalty spot by Neil Mifsud and the attempt from the rebound by Keith Borg.
HT (1-1)

Second Half
The two sides entered the second half with a prudent approach as both Sannat and
Munxar tried not to compromise the result by scoring some mistakes. For most of the
time the two goalkeepers were not called to make any difficult interventions but during
the final stages both Sannat and Munxar had potential scoring opportunities where they
could have earned the full points at stake.
39’ Sannat threatened Munxar’s rearguard with an effort by Paul Side but the ball
ended wide.
45’ Sannat could have created more danger when Aud-Gustine James Obaje delivered
an inviting cross towards the goalmouth but substitute Keiran Calleja concluded wide
from a good position.
45+1’ Munxar could have scored a dramatic decisive goal when a corner kick by Luke
Meilak arrived at Daniel Azzopardi at the far post but the latter saw his header that
ended wide.
