Qala Saints recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match from the championship and earned three points from a large win over Ghajnsielem in the opening match of Match-Day 12.  With this result, Qala has put more pressure on the contender for the title and made sure to keep the top spot at least until their next commitment in the campaign.

For this match, Qala had goalie Owern Attard and defenders Nicholas Inguanez and J.A. Ferreira Dos Santos missing due to suspensions and an injury, while Ghajnsielem were without Goncalves Barbosa who was transferred during the week.  Qala came out determined for this match to make up for their disappointing performances in previous matches and held command over their opponents throughout the ninety minutes.  The Maroons paved the way to the convincing win by scoring four goals during eh second part of the first half so that they continued to dominate after the break with the least possible effort.  Qala Igor Nedeljkov and Luan Sergio Nascimento Dias De Almeida were among the main protagonists in this win by scoring two goals each.

Timeline:

Qala came out more aggressive and took command of play from the early so that Ghajnsielem were forced to defend.  However, the Blacks only managed to protect their area for the first half of the first period as they became fragile after conceding the opening goal and compromised the match as the Maroons kept insisting and ended the first half with a four-goal cushion.

5’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg was called to make two important interventions to block an attempt from a free kick by Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz and to save the shot by Kevin Farrugia in the following action.

9’ Qala were again dangerous through an effort by Igor Nedeljkovic but Ghajnsielem’s goalie man aged to save to a corner.

11’ Ghajnsielem replied with an attempt from a free kick by Lautaro Pizzo but the ball ended wide.

14’ Qala replied with a shot from a good position by Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz but the ball got a deflection by the defence and ended in a corner.

20’ (protests for penalty) Qala protested for a penalty when Igor Nedeljkovic ended up on the floor inside Ghajnsielem’s area following a challenge with Alberto Xuereb.

23’ (1-0) Qala opened the score when Gabriel Cardona passed inside Ghajnsielem’s area from the left flank and from his cross Igor Nedeljkovic fired towards goal with the ball ending in the net despite the attempt of defender James Tabone to clear the danger.

35’ (2-0) The Maroons doubled their lead when Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz’s shot got deflected by the defence and the ball arrived to an unmarked Nathan Chukwudi Njoku who deposited in goal with a tap-in.

38’ (3-0) Qala added another goal when Igor Nedeljkovic passed inside Ghajnsielem’s area, after receiving a through pass from Nathan Njoku, and netted with a low shot from close distance.

39’ (4-0) Ghajnsielem seemed demoralised and conceded another goal when Igor Nedejkovic’s cross from the right arrived to an unmarked Luan Sergio Nascimento Dias De Almeida who headed easily in goal.

45+1’ Qala could have scored another goal but a shot on the run by Jordi Parnis, following an inviting low pass by Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz, was saved with difficulty to a corner by goalie Luke Buttigieg.

HT (4-0)

Second Half

After the break, Qala continued to administer play and expressed their superiority by scoring more goals despite reducing the momentum.  On the other hand, Ghajnsielem struggled to keep a respectable score and missed some chances to score at least a consolation goal.

5’ (5-0) Qala scored their fifth goal in their first serious attempt of the second period when Gabriel Cardona entered Ghajsnielem’s area with a personal action but had his shot that was partially saved by goalie Luke Buttigieg and from the rebound Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz fired into an open goal.

14’ Ghajnsielem threatened Qala’s rearguard through a strike but substitute Matteo Camilleri but the ball ended away from goal.

17’ The same Matteo Camilleri could have created more danger when Alberto Xuereb delivered an inviting cross inside Qala’s area but the young striker saw his low shot from a good position that ended wide.

23’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg made a good save to block a close-range effort by Dias De Almeida who was released by Ezequiel Eduardo Ruiz.

28’ (6-0) However, Qala’s Luan Sergio Nascimento Dias De Almeida sealed the win for his side by scoring the sixth goal with a low drive following a personal action.
