Munxar extend their positive run with a convincing win over Gharb

In the first match from the third and final round of the campaign, Munxar Falcons
registered a 6-1 win over bottom-placed Gharb Rangers so that they retained their
status as challengers for the runners-up position, while Gharb remain without a win
after eleven matches.

Munxar practically paved the way to the large win by scoring four goals during the first
half and took the break with a comfortable three-goal lead. The Falcons kept insisting
after the beak and scored on two other occasions while Gharb managed to score their
second goal a few minutes from the end of the encounter. Munxar’s Nathaniel Mercieca
was the hero for his side by scoring three personal goals.

Timeline:
Munxr took command of play from the first minutes of the encounter and opened a two–
goal lead during the opening stages. Gharb produced a reaction and managed to re-
open the issue but Munxar scored two more goals before the end of the first half and
practically made sure of the win.
10;’ Gharb’s goalie Andre Micallef was called to make a good save to block a shot by
Nathaniel Mercieca.
15’ (1-0) Munxar opened the when Gharb’s defender Anthony Sultana passed badly
towards his goalkeeper and Chris, Ronaldo Bohui took the ball and netted easily from
close distance.
17’ (2-0) Munxar doubled their lead with a good shot by Nathaniel Mercieca following a
personal initiative.
25’ (2-1) Gharb reduced the deficit when Michael Xuereb delivered the ball inside
Munxar’s area from a free kick and Steve Gauci headed in the goal from a good position.
35’ Gharb went close to score the equaliser but a good shot by Jonathan Paul Portelli
was well saved by Munxar’s keeper Damian Spiteri.
40’ (3-1) Munxar re-established their two-goal lead through a strike directly from a free
kick by Neil Mifsud that ended out of the reach of Gharb’s goalie.
43’ (4-1) Munxar’s fourth goal arrived through another good shot by Nathaniel
Mercieca ended out of the reach of Gharb’s goalie.

Second Half
The match lost much of the interest after the break as Munxar reduced their pressure
while Gharb did not manage to produce much danger in their sporadic offensive play.
Munxar however increased their lead by scoring two more goals while Gharb scored
their second goal just before the end of the final whistle.

5’ (crossbar) Munxar went close to score another goal but a cross shot by Kenneth
Mizzi was saved by Gharb’s goalie with the aid of the crossbar and the defence cleared
the danger.
10’ Gharb could have reduced the gap but two consecutive attempts by substitute
Noah-Joe Camilleri and Julian Camilleri were blocked by Munxar’s goalie Damian
Spiteri.
13’ (5-1) Munxar increased their lead through a low shot from an angled position by
Nathaniel Mercieca.
38’ (6-1) The sixth goal for Munxar arrived through a shot from outside the area by
substitute Emmanuel Galea who ended in the lower corner of the net.
44’ (6-2) Gharb managed to score a second goal when substitute Cleavon Zammit
delivered the ball in front of Munxar’s goal and Baldwin Osayi Ogbinobaro concluded
in goal from ca lose distance.
