In the final match from Match-Day 4 of the BOV Gozo Football League First Division, Ghajnsielem secured a convincing 4–1 victory over SK Victoria Wanderers, maintaining their perfect record and remaining the only team with maximum points. The Blacks now sit just one point behind the leaders with a game in hand.

This was an important fixture for both sides: Ghajnsielem were looking to build on their strong start to the campaign, while the Wanderers were aiming to bounce back from their previous defeat after recording two draws in their opening matches. A win would have helped them move away from the lower end of the table.  Ghajnsielem’s win was fully deserved, achieved with two goals in each half. They took a two-goal lead while playing against the wind, which allowed them to manage the match confidently after the break.

SK Victoria Wanderers seemed stunned by Ghajnsielem’s early opener and struggled to find rhythm throughout the game. Although they managed to reduce the deficit in the second half, they never looked likely to stage a full comeback.

Timeline

First Half:

Both teams started aggressively, looking to establish control early on, and each created a few promising chances. Ghajnsielem took the lead by capitalising on a defensive mistake and began managing the tempo of the game effectively, looking increasingly dangerous on the counter.

1’ Ghajnsielem could have scored early, but a shot from Deison Cuero was deflected for a corner.

6’ (Penalty appeal) – SK Victoria Wanderers appealed for a penalty when Jose Wilkson appeared to be brought down inside the box.

13’  Ghajnsielem gained possession following a poor clearance, but Ewertton Tom’s low shot went wide.

14’  Ghajnsielem goalkeeper Richard Sammut was alert to block a shot from Emerson Zammit.

15’ (1–0)  Ghajnsielem opened the scoring with a fast counterattack initiated by Deison Cuero. The Victoria goalkeeper rushed out but only managed to clear the ball into the path of Jhon Gonzalez, who finished calmly into an empty net.

31’  Victoria keeper Samuel Camilleri parried a strong shot from Naim Ibrahim Belhadj, and although the rebound caused confusion in the box, the defence eventually cleared.

36’  From a Matthias Cordina corner, Neil Camilleri mishit his attempt, sending the ball into the side netting.

39’ (2–0)  Ghajnsielem doubled their lead when Deison Cuero rose highest to head home Ewertton Tom’s corner into the far corner.

41’  Matthias Cordina tried his luck for the Wanderers, but Richard Sammut easily saved his central shot.

45’  Ghajnsielem almost sealed the result before the break as Jhon Gonzalez’s close-range shot from a Deison Cuero counter was saved well by Samuel Camilleri.

HT (2-0)

Second Half:

The Wanderers struggled to find a response after the restart, while Ghajnsielem continued to look the more organised and threatening side. The Blacks added two more goals to seal a comfortable win.

49’ (Penalty appeal)  Ghajnsielem appealed for a penalty when Ewertton Tom appeared to be brought down inside the area while the Wanderers’ defence was clearing the danger.

57’ (3–0)  Ghajnsielem extended their lead when, following a free kick, Joshua Buttigieg headed the ball forward, and after a short clearance, Jhon Gonzalez finished clinically into the net.

59’ (3–1)  SK Victoria Wanderers pulled one back when Caique Souza fired home from close range after Ghajnsielem failed to clear a corner properly.

70’ (4–1)  Ghajnsielem sealed the win when Deison Cuero’s angled shot hit the post, and Jhon Gonzalez reacted quickest to head the rebound into an empty goal.
