In the final match from the third round of the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, promotion challengers Gharb Rangers and Sannat Lions earned a point each in a goalless draw. The result left both teams dissatisfied, as they each missed the chance to go top of the standings on their own with a win.
The importance of the match clearly influenced its dynamics, with both sides playing cautiously throughout the 90 minutes to protect their respective goals. The forwards on each team found little space to create danger and were often erratic in their finishing. Sannat, however, appeared slightly more adventurous over the course of the game, while Gharb goalkeeper Luke Buttigieg emerged as a key player, producing decisive saves to keep his team in the match and preserve the point.

30’ In Sannat’s reply, a good attempt by Igor Nedeljkovic was neutralised by Gharb goalkeeper Luke Buttigieg.

Second Half
The pattern of the match remained largely the same in the second half, although for a period Sannat increased their pressure on the Gharb defence. However, the score remained unchanged.
26’ Sannat came very close to taking the lead when an attempt by Nedeljkovic struck the post.
29’ Gharb keeper Buttigieg produced the best save of the match, turning Paul Said’s effort behind for a corner after a fine solo run.
30’ (Penalty appeals) Sannat appealed for a penalty when Nedeljkovic went down in the box while attempting to dribble past an opponent.
35’ (Penalty appeals) Sannat protested again for a penalty, claiming a Gharb defender had blocked Nedeljkovic’s shot inside the area.
38’ Gharb missed the match’s best chance to win when Barnaske broke through on the right, but his low shot aimed at the far post finished just wide.
