In the final match of the second round of the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, St Lawrence Spurs secured an important 3–1 victory over Gharb Rangers to move into sole leadership of the standings, opening a gap over their closest promotion rivals.
This clash between St Lawrence Spurs and Għarb Rangers was a direct battle for first place. Both teams went in search of victory to begin the third and final round with an advantage over the other teams chasing promotion. The match proved to be an interesting contest, and at times the outcome remained uncertain. However, St Lawrence managed to score twice during the first half, gaining confidence and later recovering well after Gharb reduced the deficit in the second half.
The standout player for St Lawrence was forward Felipe Augusto, who scored two of the three goals. With this brace, he joined Sannat Lions striker Igor Nedeljkovic at the top of the league’s top scorers table with 14 goals each.

First Half:
Both teams were cautious in the opening minutes, but St Lawrence scored twice within six minutes, allowing them to control Gharb’s limited response until the break.
5’ Gharb nearly took an early lead, but a shot by Joseph George Vella went wide.
12’ (1–0) St Lawrence opened the scoring through a direct free kick by Felipe Augusto, giving the goalkeeper no chance to intervene.

Second Half:
The match became more lively in the second half, with more goalmouth action. Gharb increased their efforts to get back into the game, while St Lawrence remained solid in defence and dangerous on the counterattack. After Gharb pulled a goal back, St Lawrence responded immediately and managed the closing minutes with a comfortable two-goal advantage.

18’ In another St Lawrence attack, a lob from Joel Xuereb was neutralised by goalkeeper Luke Buttigieg.
29’ (2–1) Gharb re-entered the contest when a header by Sintayehu Curmi hit the post. The defense failed to clear properly, leading to a scramble in the box. Aud-Gustine Obaje’s first shot was blocked, but Daniel Farrugia capitalised on the rebound and found the net.
34’ (3-1) St Lawrence restored their two-goal advantage through another direct free kick by Felipe Augusto, which beat goalkeeper Luke Buttigieg.
45’ The Gharb goalkeeper was called into action again, saving a difficult shot by Felipe Augusto.
45+4’ Gharb had a final chance to reduce the deficit when, from a cross by Jason Pace, Aud-Gustine Obaje’s header was partially saved by goalkeeper Joel Micallef, and the defence eventually cleared the danger with some difficulty.
