In the first match from match-day 10 of the campaign Zebbug Rovers dropped two points from their encounter against Qala Saints and with this result the Rovers lost further ground from the top positions on the table.  This was Zebbug’s second consecutive draw, which also happened against the two teams at the lower part of the table.  As a result the Rovers remain at the third spot on the table with an extra match than the teams in the upper part of the table and seven points away from the leaders.  The final score was a just result as Qala were determined to obtain a positive result in their attempt to move away from the bottom of the table, while Zebbug struggled to return to winning ways in an attempt to re-join the two teams in the race for promotion.

Play during the opening minutes was quite balanced.  In the third minute of play Zebbug’s Gibson Mfulwane had a good shot that was well saved by goalie Franco Buttigieg and one minute later Qala replied through an effort by Modibo Niakate that was blocked by goalie Rodney Grima.  On 6 minutes Zebbug’s Patrick Camilleri had a good attempt following a corner action that hit the post and ended wide and on 20 minutes Qala replied through a header by Michael Mumford that ended just over the crossbar.  Two minutes later Zebbug’s keeper Rodney Grima was called to make a good save following a shot by Modibo Niakate and on 35 minutes Zebbug’s Gibson Mfulwane entered the area with a personal action but his lob over the goalkeeper ended wide.  Qala opened the score on 37 minutes when Modibo Mfulwane entered Zebbug’s area, turned around the goalkeeper and placed the ball into an open goal.  Zebbug replied one minute later through a shot by Gibson Mfulwane that was saved to a corner by goalie Franco Buttigieg and from the resultant corner action a shot by Clive Farrugia ended wide.  On 41 minutes Qala’s keeper Franco Buttigieg save a free kick by Gibson Mfulwane and on 42 minutes Zebbug levelled the score when Gibso Mfulwane addressed towards the goalmouth a corner kick by Ryan Grech and Patrick Camilleri arrived on the ball and concluded in goal.  However, Zebbug’s joy was short lived as Qala regained the lead on 45 minutes through Joseph Attard who turned the ball in goal following a corner kick by Michael Mumford.

The match continued to be very interesting after the break. On 53 minutes a shot by Zebbug’s Gibson Mfulwane was partially saved by goalie Franco Buttigieg and Qala’s defender Joseph Buttigieg cleared the danger form the goalmouth.  Qala were dangerous on 67 minutes but goalie Rodney Grima managed to save in time a pass by Modibo Niakate addressed to an unmarked Jake Mifsud.  Zebbug had a direct free kick by Ryan Grech on 72 minutes that ended wide and four minutes later Qala’s keeper Franco Buttigieg saved well a good effort by Gibson Mfulwane following a cross by Ryan Grech.  Zebbug levelled the score on 80 minutes when goalie Franco Buttigieg partially saved a close ranged shot by Gibson Mfulwane and from the short clearance Ryan Grech fired in goal from outside the area.  The Rovers kept insisting and turned the result in their favour two minutes later when substitute Francesco Cini unmarked Chris Borg inside Qala’s area, turned around an opponent and placed in goal with a low shot.  Qala had an immediate reaction and saved the result with a goal that arrived on 86 minutes through substitute Bernard Sammut who took the ball following a wrong pass by Zebbug’s defence within their territory by the defence, and conclude in goal with a low shot
