UEFA REGIONS CUP 2016/17 | INTERMEDIATE  ROUND – GOZO | 5th to 9th October 2016

The UEFA Regions’ Cup is a football competition for European amateur teams. It was first held in 1999 and has been played biennially since. The current champions are Eastern Region Ireland who beat Zagreb Region Croatia 1-0 at the Tallaght Stadium, Dublin in 2015.
Previous winners are, 1999 Italy, 2001 Czech Republic, 2003 Germany, 2005 Poland, 2007 Bulgaria, 2009 Croatia, 2011 Portugal, 2013 Italy.

Each UEFA member nation may enter one representative amateur team into the competition. A Preliminary and Intermediate rounds are held to determine teams progressing to the Final round. In this season’s edition the Malta Football Association will, like in the previous two editions, be represented by the selection from Gozo. The Gozitan team will be under the guidance of coach Gotthard Conti.

As witnessed in past tournaments the level of teams’ organization and keen sense of competition reflect the serious nature of this important amateur football tournament and provides excellent entertainment.
