SUMMARY

Nadur Youngsters prolonged their perfect start in the championship to five matches as they registered a 2-0 win over Ghajnsilem in the last match from Match-Day 5.  For this match Ghajnsielem were aiming to obtain a positive result in an attempt to defend the third spot on the table but the Blacks practically compromised the possibility to be serious challengers to the favourites for the title in the second minute of play when they were reduced to ten players.  Nadur took advantage of the extra player on the field of play and dominated the match so that they earned the full points at stake with a goal scored in each half.

TIMELINE

The match was played in difficult conditions due to the rain that poured practically throughout the encounter. Ghajnsielem had to change their plans after just one minute of play as they ended up with a player less on the field after the initial moments of the encounter.

1’ (red card) Ghajnsielem’s Jhon Arboleda Valencia was sent off for elbowing on Nadur’s defender Luke Tabone.

Nadur tried to take immediate advantage of the extra player on the field of play and held territorial supremacy but the Blacks were well organised at their defence and for most of the time during the first period they kept their area clear from danger.

26’  A free kick by Nadur’s Chris Camilleri ended high.

Nadur increased their pressure during the final stages of the first half.

34’  Ghajnsielem’s goalie Franklin Vella was well placed and neutralised without difficulty a cross-shot by Ian Xuereb.

37’  Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa passed inside Ghajnsielem’s area to Stefan Cassar but the latter hit badly and the ball ended wide.

39’ (1-0) Nadu opened the score when Ghajnsielem’s defence cleared badly inside the area a cross by Gennaro Hili and the ball arrived to an unmarked Predrag Djordjevic who fired in goal with a first timer.

41’ Nadur could have added another goal when Stefan Cassar entered Ghajnsielem’s area, Marcelo Barbosa prolonged to Brandon Said and the latter had his low drive that was stopped by the base of the post.

HT (1-0)

Nadur maintained their momentum after the break.

2’ (2-0)  The Youngsters doubled the score when Stefan Cassar released Marcelo Barbosa who entered the area and placed in goal with a low shot towards the far post.

10’  Nadur went again close to scoring but a strike by Marcelo Barbosa was blocked by the defence to a corner.

15’  An attempt by Nadur’s Johan Alberto Castano was well saved by Ghajnsielem’s keeper Franklin Vella.

As time passed by Nadur reduced their pressure on Ghajnsielem’s defence and the Blacks took the opportunity to be more adventurous in attack in an attempt to re-open the issue.

20’ Ghajnsielem protested for a penalty when Igor Nedeljkovic, entered Nadur’s area but ended on the floor as he was challenged by a defender.

34’ Ghajnsielem were again dangerous through a header by Igor Nedeljkovic that was well saved by Nadur’s goalie Steve Sultana.

45’ Ghajnsielem’s Daniel Bogdanovic had a shot from an angled position that was well saved by Nadur’s keeper Steve Sultana.

FT (2-0)
