Contenders for the title Nadur Youngsters suffered an unexpected setback in their challenge as they were defeated By Oratory youths in the first match from match-day twelve of the championship. Nadur seemed overconfident for this encounter and did not manage to make up for their current difficulties resulting from the fact that some key players are suffering from injuries. The Youngsters started this match against Oratory with Shaun Attard (ex-Victoria Hotspurs) who was making his debut and with substitute goalkeeper Matthew Muscat replacing Mark Grima who is out of the action for the rest of the season due to a serious injury, but Claudio Antunes and the other latest signing Daniel Farrugia (ex-Victoria Hotspurs) were among the substitutes and were utilised when the result was practically compromised. On the other hand Oratory seemed determined to make up for the disappointing results obtained in their previous matches and also had striker Sibi Gwar (ex-Victoria Hotspurs) who was making their debut. The Youths shared play with their more quoted opponents during the first part of the match and ended the first period in a draw of two goals. The Youths took advantage of some lack of concentration at Nadur’s rear guard during the second period and paved the way to the victory by scoring three goals. With this result Oratory also made an important step forward in their attempt to move away from the relegation zone.
Nadur created a good scoring opportunity in the fifth minute of play when Brandon Said entered Oratory’s territory but defender Manuel Buttigieg recovered in time and cleared the danger to a corner. Three minutes later Nadur’s Dewide Dos Santos produced a good move on the left flank but from his cross Michael Zerafa concluded badly over the crossbar from close distance. Oratory replied on nine minutes through a shot cross by Bartomeu Perello Palou that was stopped by the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten. The same striker operated another good move on 14 minutes but from his cross Sibi Gwar failed to conclude towards Nadur’s goal. In another occasion by Oratory on 21 minutes Sibi Gwar had a good attempt following a personal action that ended inches wide while Nadur replied on the half hour mark through a shot by Dewide Dos Santos that ended away from goal. On 36 minutes the same Dewide Dos Santos had an attempt from an angled position that was saved to a corner by goalie Leonard Camilleri. From the resultant corner action, Oratory failed to clear the ball from the area and debutant Shaun Attard fired in goal from close distance. Oratory were not demoralised and on 39 minutes they levelled the score when Daniel Azzopardi and Andrea Debrincat hit badly inside Nadur’s area following a cross by Borja Polo Longarela, but the ball arrived to an unmarked Bartomeu Perello Palou who concluded in goal from close distance. On 43 minutes Oratory could have turned the result in their favour but another effort by Bartomeu Perello Palou from an angled position was stopped with some difficulty by goalie Matthew Muscat.
Nadur tried to take command of play after the break and on 51 minutes they had a good effort by Brandon Said that ended high but Oratory replied on 56 minutes through a shot from long distance by Mauel Gauci that almost surprised goalie Matthew Muscat. Oratory took the lead on 61 minutes when Nadur’s defence failed to clear the ball from their goalmouth and Sibi Gwar netted from close distance. Nadur seemed shocked and on 66 minutes Oratory added another goal when Sibi Gwar surprised Nadur’s keeper with a shot from outside the area. Oratory also scored their fourth goal on 72 minutes through a long ranged free kick by Manuel Gauci that passed over the goalkeeper and ended in goal. Nadur tried to regain composure and produced a desperate reaction in an attempt to recover the score. On 76 minutes a shot by Brandon Said was saved by Oratory’s goalie Leonard Camilleri and one minute later an attempt by Josef Buttigieg from an angled position was blocked by the same goalkeeper. Nadur scored their second goal on 84 minutes when a shot by Dewide Dos Santos had a good shot saved to a corner by Oratory’s goalie and from the resultant corner action Ronaldo Da Silva headed in goal. On 86 minutes Oratory’s Sibi Gwar had a good shot that was saved in two attempts by goalie Matthew Muscat while Nadur had their last scoring opportunity of the encounter on 89 minutes but Dewide Dos Santos’ shot ended away from Oratory’s goal.
