Oratory Youths obtained a comfortable win over Dingli Swallows and obtained qualification to the second round of the Malta FA Trophy. Oratory practically made sure of the qualification with four goals scored during the first period. The Youths were well organised at their defence and managed to control Dingli’s offensive attempts. On the other hand the Youths also took advantage of a weak defensive department in front of Dingli’s goal so that they made sure of qualification during an early stage of the encounter.

The two teams seemed aggressive during the opening minutes but Oratory’s play within Dingli’s area was more threatening. On 8 minutes Dingli’s rearguard failed to clear the ball from the edge of the area so that the ball arrived to Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos who had his low shot that hit the post. Oratory opened the score two minutes later when once again Dingli’s rearguard was surprised following a cross from the left flank and the ball arrived to an unmarked Bartomeu Perello Palou who fired in goal from an angled position. As time passed by Dingli recovered from the difficult moment and for some time they also managed to produce pressure on Oratory’s defence. The visitors went also close to level the score on 31 minutes but a strike by Jonathan Pace from outside the area hit the base of the post and the defence cleared the ball from the area. Oratory doubled the score four minutes later, against the run of play, when Bartomeu Perello Palou unmarked Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos inside the area and the Brazilian striker netted easily from close distance. Dingli were shocked and on 41 minutes the Youths increased their lead when Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos entered the area but was floored by Karl Cilia. The referee awarded a penalty and the same striker converted from the spot kick. Oratory ended the first half with a comfortable four-goal lead when Inigo Allende Dolora took the ball inside the area following a cross from the right flank and placed the ball behind goalie Mark Abela with a shot from close distance.

After the break Oratory tried to administer play while Dingli’s reaction continued to be sterile. During the opening minutes of the second period Dingli’s goalie Mark Abela was at the right place when he managed to block a close ranged attempt by Bartomeu Perello Palou following a personal action. The same goalkeeper also made a good save on 56 minute following a curling shot by Everton Felipe Da Silva Santos. Dingli replied one minute later through a low shot by Joshua Sciarrino that ended wide. On 66 minutes Oratory were again dangerous through a shot from outside the area by Manuel Gauci that ended just over the crossbar. On 70 minutes a strike by Oratory’s Keith Borg was saved to a corner with difficulty by goalie Mark Abela and two minutes later the same goalkeeper partially saved a close ranged header by Borja Polo Longarela following a cross by Bartomeu Perello Palou, but the same Longarela concluded into an open goal from the rebound. For the rest of the encounter Dingli tried to score a consolation goal but the Youths continued to control play and the score remained unchanged.
