Sannat Lions obtained three precious points from their match against bottom placed Munxar Falcons and as a result they are now leading the standings with a three-point lead over their direct contenders for promotion.  The match was quite interesting as Munxar held territorial supremacy during the first half and remained in contention to earn a positive result until the final stages of the encounter.  Sannat earned their victory with goals scored during the second period.  Sannat’s striker Sunday Baala was once again the protagonist for his side by scoring the three goals that decided the issue.  This was also Sunday Baala’s second consecutive hat-trick in the campaign and with these goals he is now among the challengers for the top scorer honour of the category.

Munxar seemed more adventurous in their play during the opening stages of the encounter as they took advantage of the wind blowing in their favour.  On 7 minutes they created a good action inside Sannat’s area but Michael Matias Uzor had his attempt from an angled position that missed the target.  Sannat replied on 10 minutes through a shot by Fabian Xuereb that was well saved by goalie Lorjean Xuereb and one minute later Munxar’s Ryan Meilak had a good strike from outside the area that took a deflection and the ball just over the crossbar.  Until the end of the first half play took place in the midfield and the best scoring opportunity came from Munxar through a free kick by Jordi Parnis that ended high.

In the third minute of play of the second period Sannat could have opened the score but a low shot by Antoine Camilleri following a confused action inside Munxar’s area ended wide.  Sannat continued to express more dangerous play during the second period and on 57 minutes they also managed to open the score when Antoine Camilleri released Sunday Baala inside Munxar’s area and the latter netted with a low shot that surprised the goalkeeper.  Munxar’s reaction arrived on 62 minutes through a strike by substitute Mark Debrincat that was saved to a corner by goalie Angelo Brignoli but as time passed by they found it difficult to create danger while Sannat operated some effective counter breaks.  On 70 minutes Munxar’s goalie Lorjean Xuereb was called to make a difficult save to block to a corner an effort by Sunday Baala.  Three minutes later the same goalkeeper turned to a corner with difficulty a shot by Antoine Camilleri.  On 75 minutes a free kick by Sannat’s Omar Xuereb passed in front of Munxar’s goal but the strikers failed to connect.  Sannat doubled the score on 86 minutes when Sunday Baala received a through pass in a dubious offside position, entered the area and placed in goal after turning around the keeper.  In the third minute of stoppage time Sunday Baala registered his personal hat-trick and sealed the victory with the third goal as he concluded into an open goal an inviting low pass by Mark Muscat.
