St Lawrence Spurs registered their third consecutive win in the second round of the campaign in their match against bottom placed Munxar Falcons.  St Lawrence’s win was deserved as they dictated matters for most of the ninety minutes and created several scoring opportunities.  However, Munxar defended well during the first half but just before the hour mark they conceded the first goal from a penalty kick.  In the same penalty action Munxar ended with a player less on the field and failed to produce a reaction so that St Lawrence continued to dominate the encounter and made sure of the three points by scoring two more goals.  St Lawrence’s striker Mohammed Senussi Telessi was the main protagonist of the match by scoring the three goals for his side and is now leading the top scorer table for the category with the personal goals.  In this match the Spurs also hade Charles Mercieca who was making a return with his home team after a number of years playing in the top flight with other teams and Marlon Mamo who was making his debut.

The match was played in difficult weather conditions due to strong wind, cold and rain.  During the early stages St Lawrence took full command of play and could have opened the score in the eight minute when Marlon Mamo released Mohammed Senussi Telessi inside Munxar’s area but goalie Damien Spiteri managed to block the danger and from the resultant action the same keeper saved Luke Attard’s attempt from the edge of the area.  Four minutes later a shot by Mohammed Senussi Telessi ended over the crossbar and on 16 minutes Munxar’s goalie Damien Spiteri left his position in time to block an effort by Charlon Tabone who was alone in the area.  Munxar’s best opportunity to open the score but a strike by Paul Said ended wide.  St Lawrence were again dangerous on 33 minutes through a free kick by Charlon Tabone that was saved in two attempts by goalie Damien Spiteri and two minutes later a shot from an angled position by Mohammed Senussi Telessi following a personal action ended just wide.  The same striker went close to scoring on two separate occasions in the following minutes.  In the first occasions Tellessi concluded high from close distance following a free kick by James Grima and in the other occasion his low drive following a personal action ended on the side of the net.  During stoppage time before the end of the first half St Lawrence’s Daniel Micallef had a header from a corner action that ended just wide.

Munxar tried to be more offensive in their play after the break and on 47 minutes they were dangerous through a shot by Paul said following a personal action that ended just wide.  The Spurs however regained territorial supremacy and on 54 minute a free kick Mohammed Senussi Telessi was saved by goalie Damien Spiteri with the aid of the crossbar.  From the resultant action St Lawrence’s Marlon Mamo ended on the floor in the area following a challenge by Munxar’s Mark Debrincat.  The referee awarded a penalty to St Lawrence and the referee showed two consecutive yellow cards to Munxar’s goalie Damien Spiteri for protests so that when the substitute goalkeeper took his position, St Lawrence’s Mohammed Senussi Telessi opened the score with his shot from the spot kick.  Munxar seemed demoralised and St Lawrence went again close to scoring on 64 minutes through a shot by Luke Attard that was neutralised by substitute goalkeeper Mario Agius and the same keeper made another good intervention one minute later to block an effort by Marlon Mamo.  The Spurs however doubled the score on 73 minutes when Mohammed Senussi Telessi took the ball inside the area following some hesitation by Munxar’s defence and placed in goal with a low shot.  Mohammed Senussi Telessi made the final score 3-0 for his side and also registered a personal hat-trick on 77 minutes with a fine shot towards the far post following a personal action where he avoided three defenders with an excellent move.
