Gharb Rangers scored two goals in each half in their match against Zebbug Rovers and obtained three precious points to remain in an ideal position amongst the challengers for the title and promotion.  Gharb produced the better play and created continuous danger towards Zebbug’s rear guard mainly through their striker Andrew Ofulue who also scored a hat-trick.  Zebbug suffered Gharb’s supremacy particularly during the last hour of play when they had a player less on the field of play.

The Rangers opened the score in the sixth minute of play when an attempt by Frank Attard following an inviting low cross by Andrew Ofulue was blocked by the defence and form the rebound Oliver Farrugia fired in goal from close distance.  Four minutes later Gharb’s Andrew Ofulue concluded over the crossbar from close distance following a cross by Josef Camenzuli and on 13 minutes another attempt by Ofulue was blocked by the defence into a corner.  Gharb kept insisting and one minute later Andrew Ofulue once again went close to scoring but his shot was neutralised by goalie Christian Cassar.  Zebbug had their best scoring opportunity of the first half on 16 minutes but a lob by Omar Calleja following a counter attack ended high.  Three minutes later Gharb’s Frank Attard had a good shot that was saved to a corner by goalie Christian Cassar and on 22 minutes Gharb’s goalie Nicholas Mercieca left his position in time to clear the danger from his territory before Josef Debrincat could conclude towards goal.  Gharb doubled the score on 23 minutes through a low shot by Andrew Ofulue following a personal action.  On 33 minutes Zebbug were reduced to ten players when Matthion Formosa was sent off for a foul on Cristian Attard.

Gharb continued to dictate matters after the break and increased the lead on 51 minutes, from a penalty awarded for a foul by goalie Christian Cassar on Andrew Ofulue and converted by the same striker.  On 56 minutes Zebbug’s goalie Christian Cassar was called to make a good intervention to deny Cristian Attard from adding another goal.  Gharb managed to score the fourth goal on 66 minutes through a low drive by Andrew Ofulue following a personal action and on 83 minutes the Rangers could have increased their lead but Frank Attard had a good shot after receiving from Andrew Ofulue that was saved in two attempts by goalie Christian Cassar.
