Qala Saints registered a large win over Zebbug Rovers in the penultimate match of the campaign for the two sides and with the points obtained the Maroons moved to the fourth place on the table while Zebbug will end the league at the bottom place.  Qala dominated over their opponents for long stretches but managed to obtain such a comfortable win with six goals scored during the second period.  Qala’s striker Dario Zamora was the protagonist in this match by scoring four of the seven goals.

 

Qala seemed in a better shape during the opening stages and opened the score on 15 minutes through a lob by Dario Zamora that ended out of the reach of goalie Fabio Cini.  Qala tried to maintain command of play but as time passed by Zebbug gained confidence and started to share more play with their opponents.  On 35 minutes Qala’s goalie Franco Buttigieg managed to turn to a corner a strike by Juan Vieira Peixoto.  Three minutes later Qala went again close to scoring but a lob from long distance by Francisco Mumford ended just wide.  Zebbug replied five minutes later through another shot by Juan Vieira Peixoto that ended just wide so that the first half ended with Qala in the lead.

 

The Rovers came out more aggressive after the break and tried to put some pressure on Qala’s rearguard.  On 47 minutes Ejofor Nkwocha failed to conclude from close distance following a free kick by Daniel Portelli.  The same Portelli had as direct free kick on 49 minutes that was neutralised by goalie Franco Buttigieg.  Qala, however regained supremacy and on 50 minutes they were dangerous through a low shot by Luke Meilak that was saved by goalie Fabio Cini.  Qala doubled the score on 54 minutes through a direct free kick by Brian Meilak that surprised Zebbug’s goalie and one minute later the Maroons increased their lead through a shot from close distance by Luke Meilak following a personal action.  On 57 minutes Zebbug could have reduced the deficit but a free kick by Juan Vieira Peixoto was stopped by the crossbar.  The same Peixoto had another good effort one minute later but goalie Franco Buttigieg saved with difficulty to a corner.  On 59 minutes Qala scored their fourth goal through Dario Zamora who entered Zebbug’s territory with a personal action and placed in goal with a low shot.  Three minutes the same Dario Zamora made it 5-0 with a fine header following a corner kick by Luke Meilak and on 63 minutes Dario Zamora scored his fourth personal goal with a low shot following a personal action.  On 79 minutes Zebbug had a shot by Josef Debrincat that ended just wide and on 81 mints they scored their consolation goal through a curling shot from the edge of the area by Chris Borg that ended out of the reach of substitute goalkeeper Jonathan Curmi.   Qala scored their seventh goal on 83 minutes through a close ranged shot by Christoph Caruana following a pass inside the area by Dario Zamora.
