MATCH REPORT

Sannat Lions as expected registered their fourth win over Qala Saints in the campaign and with the points obtained they remain close to the current leaders Munxar Falcons.  Sannat’s win arrived with the least possible efforts as they scored the three goals during the first half and controlled play with authority after the break.

Sannat took command of play from the early stages of the encounter and opened the score on 14 minutes through a strike form outside the area by Daniel Borg where the ball got a deflection by the defence and ended in goal.  Qala continued to suffer Sannat’s play and on 20 minutes a shot form long distance by Josiah Buttigieg ended high.  Three minutes later Qala’s keeper Omar Xuereb left his position in time to clear the ball before Oliver Farrugia could conclude towards goal and the same goalkeeper was well placed on 24 minutes to block a shot from close distance by Mohammed Senussi Telessi.  Sannat doubled the score on 31 minutes when Nicholas Micallef passed to Oliver Farrugia who entered Qala’s territory, avoided the attempt of goalie Omar Xuereb to block the danger outside the area and concluded easily into an open goal.  On 39 minutes the same Oliver Farrugia was unlucky when he had a header from a corner kick by Nicholas Micallef that hit the crossbar. On 42 minutes Sannat Lions scored their third goal with a header by Joseph Zammit following a cross from the left flank by Oliver Farrugia.

 

Sannat continued to dictate matter after the break but reduced their pressure on Qala’s defence.  They could have added another goal on 61 minutes but a shot from outside the area by substitute Eric Gauci ended wide.  Qala could have scored a consolation goal on 79 minutes through a shot from outside the area by Malcolm Cefai that was well saved by goalie Leonard Camilleri.  Sannat went again close to scoring on other occasions before the end of the encounter. On 81 minutes a shot by substitute Isaac Mampalao following a personal action ended ide and minutes later two minutes later Qala’s keeper Omar Xuereb blocked the ball before Eric Gauci could conclude from close distance.  Sannat’s last scoring opportunity arrived on 83 minutes through a shot by Oliver Farrugia that ended wide.
