MATCH REPORT

Nadur Youngsters obtained a 5-0 win over the relegated side Munxar Falcons and became the first finalist for the BOV GFA Cup which is the second most important honour in Gozitan football.  Nadur had sev eral players missing from their starting line-up and therefore some of their players in the squad who were not utilised much in the championship had an opportunity to obtain experience in competitive matches.  Nadur found it difficult to take control of play during the initial stages as Munxar seemed determined to end a disappointing season on a positive note. However, Nadur took a two-goal lead by the end of the first half from two penalty kicks and administered the lead throughout the second period.  Once again Nadur’s striker Marcelo Babrosa distinguished himself in this encounter by scoring three personal goals and alos by creating continuous danger within Munxar’s territory.

Munxar created the first serious scoring opportunity of the match that arrived on 16 minutes through a shot by Ademayo Ademilua that was well saved by Nadur’s keeper Gaetano Bugeja.  On 21 minutes Nadur replied through a free kick by Marcelo Barbosa that was blocked by Munxar’s goalie John Paul Cassar and on 27 minutes Nadur’s Michael Paul Camilleri had a shot from outside the area that ended just wide.  Nadur were again dangerous on 31 minutes when a shot by Tristen Portelli was neutralised by goal John Paul Cassar. One minute later Nadur were awarded a penalty for a foul by Keith Borg and Olive Curmi on Marcelo Barbosa and the same striker opened the score by placing in goal with the shot from the spot kick.  On 38 minutes Nadur were awarded a second penalty for a tackle by Borja Polo Longarela on Marcelo Barbosa and the Brazilian striker converted from the spot kick to make it 2-0.  Munxar could have reduced the score on 43 minutes when Diego Martins De Souza passed to Borja Polo Longarela outside Nadur’s area but the latter saw his shot on the run well saved by goalie Gaetano Bugeja.

Nadur scored their third goal in the third minute of play of the second period when a shot by Marcelo Barbosa was partially saved by Munxar’s keeper John Paul Cassar and from the rebound Tristen Portelli placed easily in goal.  On 53 minutes Munxar were again dangerous but an overhead kick by Borja Polo Longarela was saved by Nadur’s keeper.  Two minutes later a shot by Nadur’s Nicholas Inguanez following a counter break by Marcelo Barbosa was stopped by the crossbar and from the rebound Owen Peter Bugeja failed ti take the opportunity to conclude towards goal and goalie John Paul Cassar recovered in time to save the danger from the goalmouth.  On 58 minutes Nadur added another goal through Marcelo Barbosa who concluded easily in goal following a personal action.  On 66 minutes Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa entered Munxar’s area with a typical personal action but his shot form a good position missed the target.  Nadur’s keeper was called to make another good save on 76 minutes following a strike by Borja Polo Longarela. The same Polo Longarela could have scored a consolation goal for Munxar on 82 minutes but his good shot was turned with some difficulty to a corner by Nadur’s young keeper and from the resultant corner action a shot by Jhon Jario Sandobal Guarin was blocked by Nadur’s defence.  Nadur sealed the win by scoring the fifth goal on 84 minutes through a shot from outside the area by Nicholas Inguanez that surprised goalie John Paul Cassar.
