SUMMARY

In the first match of the third round of the BOV Gozo Football League of the second division, Oratory Youths extended their good moment of form and earned three precious points from a 4-0 win over Qala Saints.  With this win Oratory practically maintained their pressure on the current leaders of the table Sannat Lions and consolidated their status as serious contenders for promotion. Oratory held supremacy for most of the encounter and obtained the win with three goals scored during the second period.

Oratory tried to put pressure on Qala’s defence from the early stages.

13’ Qala created the first serious scoring opportunity of the encounter through a low shot by Frank Azzopardi that was well saved by Oratory’s keeper Nathan Camilleri.

15’ Oratory replied with a good action by Bartomeu Perello Palou, who passed through a number of defenders within Qala’s area but Jermey Portelli recovered his position and cleared the ball before the Spanish striker could conclude from close distance.

20’ Oratory went again close to scoring but an attempt by Chris Borg was cleared off the fatal line by Qala’s defender Peter Muscat.

35’ (1-0) Oratory took the lead through a fine strike from outside the area by Justin Azzopardi following a corner action with the ball hitting a defender before ending in goal so that the goalkeeper was misplaced.

For the second period Qala tried to produce a reaction and for some minutes they as time passed by Oratory regained full command of play and made sure of the win by scoring three more goals.

5’ Qala had their best opportunity to level the score but a shot by Felipe Augusto De Oliviera was saved with difficulty to a corner by Oratory’s goalie Nathan Camilleri.

13’ The Youths continued to produce offensive play and went close to add another goal through a curling shot by Bartomeu Perello Palou was topped by the post with the goalkeeper beaten.

14’ (2-0) Oratory doubled the score when Keith Farrugia delivered a cross from the right flank and the ball arrived to Chris Borg but the latter had his shot that was partially blocked by goalie Omar Xuereb and form the rebound Bartomeo Perello Palou placed easily into an open goal.

Qala seemed demoralised and failed to produce a reaction.

25’ (3-0) Oratory scored the third goal when Chris Borg passed with a back heel inside Qala’s area to Bartomeu Perello Palou and the latter concluded in goal with a low shot.

27’ Qala could have reduced the deficit but a strike from outside the area by Frank Azzopardi was saved with difficulty to a corner by Oratory’s keeper Nathan Camilleri.

30’ In another good offensive action by Qala a shot by Martin Buttigieg missed the target.

32’ Oratory replied through a free kick form long distance by Emanuel Buttigieg that ended just over the crossbar.

35’ (4-0)  The Youths sealed the win with the fourth goal when Bartomeu Perello Palou entered Qala’s area but had his low shot that was partially saved by Qala’s keeper Omar Xuereb but form the rebound the ball arrived to substitute Paul Said who managed to conclude into an open goal despite the pressure from his direct opponent.
