SUMMARY

Nadur Youngsters registered a 5-1 win over bottom-placed Gharb Rangers in a match from Match-Day 10 of the BOV Gozo Football League of the first division and with the points obtained they remain leaders of the top flight on maximum points. This was also the second consecutive win for Nadur with a large score and the Youngsters repeated the positive performance that they showed in the match against Gharb of the first round when they obtained a 4-0 win. Nadur had some changes in their starting line-up so that players who did not have much opportunity to play in competitive matches had the opportunity for some matc practice. The Youngsters paved the way to this win with two goals scored during the first half so that they dominated completely after the break and scored on three other occasions.

TIMELINE

Nadur took command of play from the early stages but they found it more difficult than expected to open a comfortable lead so that for most of the first half Gharb remained in contention to register a surprise result.
3’ Nadur could have opened the score but a good attempt by Marcelo Barbosa following a personal action was well saved by Gharb’s keeper Daniel Spiteri.
5’ (0-1) Nadur managed to open the score at an early stage through a fine header by Luke Tabone following a corner kick by Chris Camilleri.
15’ Gharb replied through a fine move by Pablo Vinicius Ferreira but Gharb’s striker had his low shot aimed towards the far post that ended wide.
16’ Gharb created some pressure on Nadur’s defence once again and also protested for a penalty when Joseph Grima ended on the floor inside the area following a challenge with his direct opponent but the referee did not notice any infringement and the ball arrived to Samwel Muscat who had his attempt blocked to a corner by central defender Elkin Serrano Valero.
19’ Nadur went again close to scoring through a shot from outside the area by Chris Camilleri that was well saved by Gharb’s keeper Daniel Spiteri.
20’ In another offensive action created by Nadur a shot by Marcelo Barbosa ended wide.
27’ Gharb replied with a move by Joseph Grima inside Nadur’s area and defender Daniel Farrugia risked to commit an own goal when he hit badly in an attempt to clear the danger but goalie Steve Sultana was well placed and punched away the ball from the goalmouth so that from the following action the shot on the run by Gharb’s Matthew Grech missed the target.
39’ (0-2) Nadur doubled the score when Marcelo Barbosa unmarked Johan Alberto Castano inside Gharb’s area and the Columbian striker avoided the intervention of two defenders and the goalkeeper before he concluded in goal with a fine shot from close distance.

For the second period Nadur took full command of play and Gharb were forced to defend their area from the continuous danger.
9’ Gharb’s keeper Daniel Spiteri made a good save to turn to a corner a shot by Stefan Cassar.
10’ (0-3) Nadur scored their third goal through an excellent volley by Johan Alberto Castano from a corner kick by Chris Camilleri that surprised Gharb’s defence.
23’ Nadur went again close to scoring but a shot by Shaun Attard after receiving from Marcelo Barbosa ended high.
25’ (0-4) – (penalty) Nadur were awarded a penalty for a foul by Gharb’s Camilo Andres Babilonia on Marcelo Barbosa and the same Marcelo Barbosa converted from the spot kick.
30’ Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa produced a personal action inside Gharb’s area but his shot aimed towards goal missed the target.
32’ (0-5) Nadur added another goal when substitute Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz took the ball from Gharb’s defence following some hesitation and as the Brazilian striker saw the goalkeeper out of his position he concluded easily into an open goal.
38’ Nadur could have scored another goal but a close ramged attempt by substitute Brandon Said following a fine move by Predrag Djordjevic ended wide.
40’ Gharb had a good scoring opportunity but a shot from outside the area by Pablo Vinicius Ferreira ended high.
42’ Nadur went again close to add another goal when Gharb’s defence cleared badly inside their area so that the ball arrived to Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz but the latter had his fine shot well saved by keeper Daniel Spiteri.
45’ Gharb could have scored a consolation goal when Olimpio Gabreil Fernandes passed through Nadur’s defence but his low shot was well saved by goalie Steve Sultana.
