Reigning champions Nadur Youngsters registered a handsome 4-0 win over Kercem Ajax and with the points obtained the Youngsters moved over the same Kercem on the table.  This was the third match of the championship for the two sides.  Kercem were coming from two consecutive wins and took the field with the ambition to surprise their more quoted opponents and to obtain a positive result.  On the other hand Nadur only earned a point from a draw against rivals Ghajnsielem in their previous match and they were determined to make up for the disappointment with a positive performance in this match against Kercem.  The match was well contested during the first period but Nadur took full command of play as soon as they scored the second goal during the opening stages of the second period.  Nadur practically paved the way to the win with two penalties converted at the beginning of each half.  The Youngsters were very aggressive during the opening stages and took a deserved early lead but Kercem had a good reaction and for most of the first half they managed to share play.  Nadur however were awarded a second penalty during the early stages of the second period and Kercem never managed to recover so that the Youngsters made sure of the win by scoring on two other occasions.

Timeline

Nadur took command of play from the kickoff but Kercem had a good reaction after conceding an early goal so that play for most of the first half was quite balanced.

3’ Nadur’s Chris Camilleri had a shot from a good positon that ended away from goal.

6’ (1-0 penalty) Nadur were awarded a penalty for handling by Kercem’s Jason Theuma following a free kick by Chris Camilleri and Ederson Bruno Domingos netted with his shot form the spot kick.

9’ Nadur protested for a penalty, alleging another hands ball inside the area, as a strike by Gabriel Farrugia following a corner action was blocked by the defence.

11’ Kercem almost surprised Nadur when Samuel Saldanha entered the area following a long clearance from the midfield and headed towards goal as the goalkeeper hesitate to take the ball.  However, Nadur’s extreme defender recovered his position in time and saved the danger.

19’ Nadur’s Chris Camilleri had a shot from close distance following a prolonged action within Kercem’s area that was blocked by the Kercem’s keeper Gaetano Bugeja and from the rebound Camilleri’s attempt to cross the ball towards the goalmouth was cleared to a corner by the defence.

21’ Kercem replied through an effort by Samuel Saldanha who entered the area from the right flank but his low crossed aimed to an unmarked Anthony Zammit was cleared to a corner in time by Nadur’s defender Ian Xuereb.

30’ Kercem were again dangerous as Samuel Saldanha passed Nadur’s defence but his curling shot towards the upper corner was saved with difficulty to a corner by Nadur’s keeper Steve Sultana.

34’ Nadur’s Jorge Santos Silva had a header from a corner kick by Chris Camilleri that ended wide.

37’ Nadur operated a good counter break where Chris Camilleri released Ederson Bruno Domingos.  The latter entered the area but as he came face to face with the goalkeeper, the Brazilian striker lifted over the crossbar.

45’ Nadur should have capitalised better when Kercem’s rear guard cleared badly and  the ball arrived to an unmarked Ederson Bruno Domingos but the latter saw his shot that was saved to a corner by Kercem’s keeper Gaetano Bugeja.

HT (1-0)

Kercem came out for the second period with the intention to maintain their momentum in an attempt to recover the deficit but they ended up conceding the second goal and threw the towel for the rest of the encounter.

6’ (2-0 penalty) Nadur were awarded a second penalty in their first serious attempt towards Kercem’s goal of the second period when Ederson Bruno Domingos was floored by Kercem’s keeper Gaetano Bugeja and Jorge Santos Silva converted from the spot kick.

11’ The same Jorge Santos Silva entered Kercem’s area but from his cross Chris Camilleri headed wide form a good position.

15’ Nadur were again dangerous through a low shot by Stefan Cassar, after receiving from Jorge Santos Silva, which ended wide.

18’ In another offensive action by Nadur, Gabriel Farrugia took the ball just outside Kercem’s area but his attempt was well saved to a corner by goalie Gaetano Bugeja.

19’ (3-0) Nadur added another goal when Kercem’s defence cleared the ball from the area following a corner action but the ball arrived to Stefan Cassar who controlled without any pressure and netted with a fine lob that was out of the reach of the goalkeeper.

23’ Kercem could have reduced the deficit when Nadur’s defence failed to clear the ball from the area but the attempt by Samuel Saldanha ended away from goal.

27’ Nadur’s substitute Andrea Debrincat received an invting pass from Ederson Bruno Domingos but the former saw his effort that ende wide.

27’ (4-0) Nadur scored their fourth goal when Ederson Bruno Domingos released Jorge Santos Silva who placed in goal with a shot towards the far post.

38’ The other substitute of Nadur Nicholas Inguanez could have added another goal but his shot following a pass from substiute Michael Paul Camilleri ended wide.

45+ 1’ The last scoring opportunity for Nadur to score another goal arrived through an effort from outside the area by Gabriel Farrugia but the ball ended just over the crossbar.
