The direct clash form the relegation zone between SK Victoria Wanderers and Oratory Youths ended in a draw of two goals so that the Wanderers retained their three point lead over Oratory and the latter gained their first point in the championship.  However, the outcome of this match leaves the two sides struggling in the red zone.

Oratory saw more of the ball during the first half but failed to capitalise from the best scoring opportunities, including a penalty, so that Victoria shared more play after the break and also created some good scoring opportunities.  The Wanderers opened the score ten minutes from the end of the match and seemed heading towards a win but the Youths saved the result with a goal that arrived two minutes from the end of regular time.

Timeline

Oratory seemed more motivated and aggressive from the early stages of the encounter so that they dictated matters for most of the first half.

7’ Oratory could have opened the score but Eric Gaici failed to hit the ball from close distance following a cross from the left flank by Daniel Azzopardi.

9’ Victoria’s keeper Giacomo Ratto was well placed to block a strike by Karolis Chvedukas.

12’ The Wanderers replied through an initiative by Aud-Gustine James Obaje who delivered a low cross inside Oratory’s area but Gabriel Cardona missed the connection and the defence cleared the danger.

15’ Oratory protested for a penalty when Victoria’s goalie left his position to clear away the ball before Chris Borg could take the possession inside the area.

21’ penalty missed –saved: Oratory were awarded a penalty for a foul by Victoria’s Oliver Curmi on Karolis Chvedukas buit the same striker saw his shot from the spot kick that was saved by goalie Giacomo Ratto and the defence cleared the danger to a corner.

23’ Oratory were also unlucky from the resultant corner action taken by James Grima ads a header by Daniel Azzopardi was stopped by the crossbar.

27’ SK Victoria Wanderers protested for a penalty when Aud-Gustine James Obaje ended on the floor inside the area as he was trying to conclude a personal action.

30’ Victoria’s keeper was again called to make a good save as he blocked to a corner a shot form an angled position by Daniel Azzopardi who entered the area with a personal action.

37’ Oratory missed another good scoring opportunity when a shot by Karolis Chvedukas following an inviting cross by Chris Borg ended wide.

HT (0-0)

Play after the break became more balanced with the two sides producing danger to the respective defence.

5’ SK Victoria Wanders went close to open the score but a shot from a good position by Gabriel Cardona following a low cross by Aud-Gustine James Obaje ended wide.

7’ The Wanderers were again dangerous when Aud-Gustine James Obaje entered Oratory’s area and addressed the ball towards the goalmouth when the goalkeeper was out of his position but the defence managed to recover and cleared the ball in time before Emerson Zammit could arrive on the ball to conclude from close distance.

22’ Oratory went very close to scoring but a free kick by Daniel Azzopardi was saved with difficulty by goalie Giacomo Ratto with the aid of the post and from the rebound Oratory’s Chris Borg concluded wide.

25’ The Wanderers replied with a good action where Gabriel Cardona released Emerson Zammit but the latter concluded wide from a good position.

35’ (1-0) SK Victoria Wanderers opened the score when Emerson Zammit delivered the ball towards the goalmouth from a free kick and Aud-Gustine James Obaje arrived before the defence and pushed the ball in goal.

43’ (1-1)  Oratory levelled the score when Eric Gauci crossed from the right flank and a header by James Grima was partially saved by Victoria’s keeper so that substitute Daniel Atzori was at the right placed and concluded into an open goal from close distance.
