Munxar Falcons registered a 4-1 win over Gharb Rangers and with the points obtained they become favourites to obtain qualification to the final of the competition.  This was the second consecutive win in the qualifying round of the GFA 2nd Division Cup for Munxar that arrived in the match that was considered as a direct clash between two sides who are aiming for the final.

Munxar were more offensive in their play throughout the match and paved the way to the win with two goals scored during the first part of the encounter.  Gharb re-opened their chances to save the result from a penalty that arrived near the end of the first half but the Rangers failed to maintain momentum after the break so that Munxar administered play, missed an opportunity from a penalty and made sure of the win by scoring two other goals during the final stages.

Timeline

Munxar had an excellent start and managed to score an early goal so that they gained confidence for the rest of the first half.

5’ Munxar created their first scoring opportunity when Ayesller Carvalho entered Gharb’s territory and unmarked Steve Dimech but the latter saw his effort that was well saved by goalie John Paul Cassar.

6’ Gharb replied through a shot by Nicholas Attard that was well saved by goalie Daniel Galea.

8’ (0-1) Munxar opened the score when Gharb’s defence failed to clear a cross by Roberto Sammut and Ayesller Carvalho took the opportunity and concluded in goal from close distance.

22’ Gharb’s reaction arrived through a shot form long distance by Charles Hili that ended over the crossbar.

28’ The Falcons lost a good scoring opportunity but Ayesller Carvalho’s header following a free kick by Roberto Sammut ended just high.

35’ (0-2) Munxar doubled the score when Ayesller Carvalho entered Gharb’s area with a personal action and netted with a low drive as the goalkeeper left his position to block the danger.

43’ (1-2) penalty – Gharb re-opened the issue when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Aaron Buttigieg on Charles Hili and Milos Stojanovic converted from the spot.

HT (1-2)

Gharb came out for the second period with the intention to produce a reaction but Munxar defender well and were more dangerous with counter breaks.

6’ Munxar could have created more danger when Ayesller Carvalho entered Gharb’s area with a personal action but his attempt from close distance was blocked to a corner by substitute Gabriel Sillato.

11’ Gharb replied through a weak heard from a good position by Milos Stojanovic, following a cross form the right flank by Luke Attard, which was easily saved by Munxar’s goalie Daniel Galea.

13’ Munxar lost another good scoring opportunity when Steve Dimech hit badly a shot on the run following a low cross form the left flank by Ayesller Carvalho and the ball ended over the crossbar.

25’ (penalty missed – saved) Munxar could have increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by goalie John Paul Cassar on Ayesller Carvalho but the same goalkeeper saved the shot form the spot kick by the Brazilian striker.

32’ (1-3) Munxar made up for the missed opportunity and scored the third goal through a header by Roberto Sammut following a free kick by Luke Meilak.

43’ (1-4) Munxar sealed the win with the fourth goal that arrived through a direct free kick by Ayesller Carvalho that ended in the upper corner of the net and out of the reach of the goalkeeper.
