In the first match from the last Match-Day of the second round of the championship Oratory Youths and SK Victoria Wanderers shared the spoils in a draw of two goals.  This was a clash from the relegation zone where Oratory was aiming to obtain a win to increase their lead over the same Wanderers to six points while the latter needed the three points to move away from the bottom of the table.  In the end, the outcome of this derby match satisfies Oratory more as they retained they remain outside the relegation zone while the Wanderers managed to earn a point which puts them on equal points with Xewkija Tigers but remains at the bottom of the table.

The match was well contested although Oratory created more dangerous play mainly through their strikers Goncalves Barbosa and Vinicius Ferreira.  The latter confirmed his excellent moment of form and also scored the goal which put his side in the lead at an early stage of the match.  Oratory however failed to score a second goal which could have put their minds at rest from the win so that they left their opponents in contention.  The Wanderers produced their reaction after the break and their efforts were rewarded by scoring the equaliser seven minutes away from the end of regular time.

Timeline

The two sides were conditioned by the importance of the encounter and seemed determined to take command of play.  Oratory scored an early goal and took the driving seat so that they gained territorial supremacy as time passed by while Victoria struggled to produce a reaction.

10’ (1-0) Oratory opened the score in their first attempt towards Victoria’s goal when Goncalves Barbosa took the ball from the defence, entered the area turned around his direct opponent and unmarked Pablo Vinicius De Moraes Ferreira who fired in goal with a fine shot.

15’ The Wanderers replied with a free kick from a long distance by Neil Camilleri that was well saved by goalie Richard Sammut.

31’ The Youths once again threatened Victoria’s defence with a shot from outside the area by Goncalves Barbosa that was easily saved by goalie Mladen Kukrika.

33’ The same goalkeeper was well placed and blocked with some difficulty a low shot by Daniel Atzori after receiving from Vinicius Ferreira.

39’ (protests for penalty) Oratory protested for a penalty claiming handling by Victoria’s central defender Asante Agyeman in his attempt to clear the ball from the area.

45’ The Wanderers could have created more danger but a shot by Aaron Touarha following a counter break ended wide.

45+2’ Victoria’s Aud-Gustine James Obaje had a good shot from outside the area but the ball ended away from goal.

Second Half

The Wanderers came out more aggressive for the second period but Oratory was well deployed and managed to keep their area cleared from serious danger.

11’ Victoria could have capitalised better following a free kick by Fabricio Rozkiewicz but Oratory’s goalie Richard Sammut managed to avoid the danger and saved in two attempts.

13’ The Youths replied through an initiative by Goncalves Barbosa who passed inside the area towards Karl Formosa but the latter saw his low shot aimed to the far post that ended wide.

22’ Oratory’s Karl Formosa had another attempt with a shot from outside the area that ended away from goal.

25’ The Wanderers had their best opportunity to level the score when Fabricio Rozkiewicz arrived on the ball before the goalkeeper at the edge of the area but the attempt of the striker ended wide.

31’ Oratory’s Goncalves Barbosa had a good shot following a personal action that ended wide.

32’ The same Goncalves Barbosa released Vinicius Ferreira but the latter saw his shot that missed the target.

33’ The Youths kept insisting and once again Goncalves Barbosa had a shot from a good position that ended high.

38’ (1-1) The Youths were punished for the missed chances as the Wanderers scored the equaliser that arrived through a header by Neil Camilleri following a free-kick by substitute Emerson Zammit.

45’ Oratory could have created more danger when Joa Vito Ferrari Silva headed inside the area following a free-kick but the header By David Gnoka Lago was weak and goalie Mladen Kukrika saved without difficulty.
