In the first match from Match-Day 12 of the BOV Gozo Football league of the first division current leaders Nadur Youngsters obtained a 3-0 win over Oratory Youths.  This was Nadur’s eleventh consecutive win in the championship and with the points obtained they continued to express their superiority in the top flight of the Gozitan Football.

In this match Nadur were determined to extend their positive run and held command of play throughout the encounter.  Nadur however ended up conceding counter breaks to their opponents and only managed to put their minds at rest from the result with a third goal that arrived during stoppage time.  For most of the match Nadur’s strikers found it difficult to convert their territorial supremacy in goals, while Oratory’s striker Goncalves Barbosa often created panic within Nadur’s defensive area but central defender Lucas Moreira was in an excellent form and denied the striker from concluding the breaks towards goal.

The Youngsters took the lead just after the hour mark and administered play with more authority for the rest of the encounter.  Nadur took the pedal off the accelerator after scoring the second goal during the opening stages of the second period but managed to score a third goal just after the stroke of regular time.

Timeline

Nadur came out very aggressive in an attempt to score an early goal but Oratory were well organised at their defence.  For most of the time Oratory resisted to the pressure and tried to surprise their more quoted opponents with counter breaks.

4’ Nadur could have scored an early goal but a first timer form close distance by Stefan Cassar following a cross form the right hit the crossbar.

7’ Nadur’s Marcelo Barbosa hit badly from a good position following a cross from the right by Ian Xuereb and the ball ended away from goal.

10’ The Youngsters missed another good scoring opportunity when Marcelo Barbosa released Stefan Cassar inside Oratory’s area but he latter saw his low drive aimed towards the far post that ended wide.

29’ Oratory replied with a personal action by Vinicius Ferreira who had a shot from close distance that missed the target.

33’ (0-1) Nadur opened the score through a header by Judivan Flor Da Silva following a cross from the right flank by Ian Xuereb.

34’ The Youths had an immediate reaction and could have created more danger but Goncalves Barbosa headed weak following a cross by Sintayehu Curmi and the goalkeeper saved without difficulty.

36’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was well placed and turned with difficulty to a corner a cross shot from long distance by Ian Xuereb.

Second Half

Oratory tried to produce a reaction during the first minutes of play of the second period but they ended up conceding the second goal before the hour mark and seemed demoralised for the rest of the match.

4’ Oratory created a dangerous action through an initiative by Goncalves Barbosa but the striker was denied from concluding in goal as the defence cleared to a corner among protests for a penalty.  From the resultant penalty action the attempt from close distance by Sintayehu Curmi ended over the crossbar.

8’ (0-2) Nadur doubled the score when Marcelo Barbosa received the ball inside Oratory’s area, turned around his direct opponent and fired in goal with a curling shot.

16’ Oratory had their best scoring opportunity of the encounter when Karl Formosa unmarked Goncalves Barbosa inside Nadur’s area but the striker saw his shot from an angled position that was saved with difficulty to a corner by goalie Steve Sultana.

28’ Oratory once again threatened Nadur’s rear guard through a shot from outside the area by Goncalves Barbosa but the ball ended wide.

31’ Oratory’s goalie Angelo Brignoli was called to make a difficult sae to turn to a corner a strike from outside the area by Ian Xuereb.

45+1’ (0-3) Nadur made sure of the win by scoring he third goal that arrived through a tap-in by Lucas Moreira following an inviting low cross by Marcelo Barbosa so that Nadur’s central defender marked a very good performance by putting his name with the scorers.
