Munxar Falcons and St Lawrence Spurs earned a point each from a goalless draw so that the two sides remain in a mid-table position.  The outcome of the encounter did not satisfy either side as both teams were aiming to obtain a win in an attempt to move away from the lower places on the table and also with the ambition to close the gap with the top teams.  In the end, the final score was just as it confirms that both Munxar and St Lawrence have limitations to conclude their respective offensive play in goals.

Timeline:

St Lawrence had a better start and produced some pressure over Munxar’s defence during the opening stages.  The Spurs however failed to capitalise on some good chances so Munxar gained confidence as time passed by and shared more play during the second part of the first half.

17’ St Lawrence’s Alen Haska went very close to opening the sore but his strike from a good position ended wide.

38’ Munxar’s best scoring opportunity of the first half arrived through an effort by Henry Fabian Solis that was neutralised by goalie Joel Xiberras.

Second Half

Play continued to be quite balanced after the break.  St Lawrence seemed more adventurous during the final stages but they ended up conceding dangerous counter breaks to their opponents.  However, the strikers of the two sides continued to be very erratic in their finishing and both sides failed to create open scoring opportunities.

43’ St Lawrence missed the best chance to obtain a win but a shot from the edge of the area by substitute Luke Portelli missed the target.

45+3’ (red cards) The match ended on a negative note as the two sides seemed nervous during the final moments of the encounter.  The two sides also ended with ten players as Munxar’s Stefan Farrugia and St Lawrence’s George Portelli were sent off in the same action for fighting.

(After the match) At the end of the match, some players continued arguing and St Lawrence also had Jake Saliba who was sent off for offensive behaviour towards the referee.
