SK Victoria Wanderers earned three important points from a 3-2 win over Munar Falcons and moved over the same Munxar on the table.  With this result, the Wanderers took advantage of Xaghra’s unexpected draw while Munxar missed an opportunity to reach the leaders on equal points.

The match turned out to be quite interesting, which became very nervous during the final stages and the two sides ended up the encounter with ten players.  Munxar tried to be more offensive in their play but the Wanderers seemed more experienced as they defended well and capitalised from their few attempts towards Munxar’s goal.  The turning point of the encounter was probably during the end of the first half when Munxar scored the equaliser but the Citizens had an immediate reaction and regained the lead before the break.

Timeline:

Munxar seemed more motivated and seemed more offensive in their play.  Victoria was well deployed in their defence and threatened their opponents with dangerous breaks.

15’ Munxar almost took the lead when Ryan Meilak took a back pass by the central defender towards the goalkeeper but Munxar’s striker hit badly and his shot from an ideal position missed the target.

20’ (0-1) The Wanderers took the lead through an initiative on the right flank by Kersten Grima who delivered a low cross towards Munxar’s goalmouth and Emerson Zammit followed the action and fired in goal with a shot on the run.

27’ Munxar replied with a strike from outside the area by Samwel Muscat that ended wide.

42’ (1-1) The Falcons managed to level the score with a goal that arrived through a close-ranged shot by Kenneth Mizzi.

44’ (1-2) Munxar’s joy was short-lived as the Wanderers regained the lead when Aud-Gustine James Obaje took the ball from a melee inside Munxar’s area and the striker saw his shot ending in goal despite the attempt of the goalkeeper to block the danger.

45+1’ (red card) Munxar had substitute Mark Debrincat who was shown a red card for his behaviour on the substitute’s bench.

HT (1-2)

Second Half

After the resumption, Munxar tried to increase their efforts in an attempt to recover the deficit but Victoria continued to neutralise the efforts of their opponents and also managed to increase their lead.  Munxar however re-opened the issue but failed to save the result.

15’ (1-3) Victoria paved the way to the win when they scored their third goal which arrived through Joseph George Vella.

24’ (red card) The Wanderers ended u playing the last part of the encounter as Kersten Grima was sent off after receiving a second caution.

18’ (2-3) Munxar took immediate advantage of the extra layer on the field and re-opened their chances to earn a point by scoring their second goal through Brandon Said.

40’ (red card) Munxar also ended the encounter with ten players as Aaron Buttigieg was also sent off for a second bookable offence.
