In the last match from the BOV Gozo Football League 2022/2023 of the second division Zebbug Rovers obtained a 3-0 win over Xaghra United so that they ended up in the campaign on a positive note and placed third in the final standings.
Xaghra United was already certain of their runners-up position before this match and they lacked the motivation to obtain the win. On the other hand, Zebbug was sharing third place with Munxar Falcons before this last encounter and they needed at least one point to push the Falcons one place behind. Zebbug achieved their objective as they took the lead with a goal scored during the first half and made sure of the three points with two goals scored in the space of three minutes midway through the second period.
Timeline:
Play for most of the first period took place in the midfield as the defensive department prevailed over the respective striker so serious scoring opportunities at the two ends of the field of play were quite rare.
35’ (0-1) Zebbug managed to break the deadlock and took the lead with a goal scored by Daniel Mesa Pineros.

Second Half
Xaghra’s reaction after the break was often sterile while Zebbug grew in confidence and administered their lead. The Rovers also capitalised from a good moment and scored two goals in the space of a few minutes to make sure of the win well before the end of the encounter.
70’ (0-2) The Rovers doubled their lead with a goal scored by Gabriel Debrincat.
73’ (0-3) Zebbug practically sealed the win with a third goal that arrived through an effort by Lorenzo Atzori.
