SK Victoria Wanderers recovered from the defeat conceded in their previous match and obtained three important points from a 5-0 win over Xaghra United.  In this match, the Wanderers were determined to obtain the full points at stake in their attempt to keep close to the top positions from an early stage of the championship.  Victoria dominated for most of the time and took the beak with a comfortable three-goal lead.  After the break, the Citizens reduced their pressure but Xaghra failed to capitalise on some good chances to re-open the issue so the latter ended up conceding two more goals near the end of the encounter.  With this result, the Wanderers became the team with the best attack after Match-day 3 while Xaghra remain at the bottom of the table without a win and they are still seeking to score their first goal this season.

Timeline:

The two sides came out for this match with the intention to take control of play but after some minutes the Wanderers prevailed in the midfield and became more offensive. The Citizens managed to score an early goal and converted their superiority with two more goals scored before the end of the first half.

13’ Xaghra’s goalie Lorjean Xuereb was called to make a difficult save to turn to a corner an attempt directly from a free kick by Marcus Vinicius Claudino Ramos, known as Choco, and from the same corner action, a header by Kenneth Mercieca missed the target.

14’ (0-1) The Wanderers opened the score when Marcus Vinicius Claudino Ramos (Choco) fired a strike from a long distance and the ball ended in the upper corner of Xaghra’s goal.

15’ Xaghra had an immediate reaction and went close to level the score but a strike from outside the area by Camilo Andres Diaz Arias was saved with some difficulty to a corner by Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis.

19’ The Wanderers missed an opportunity to double the score when Junior Conceicao Cabral entered the area and tried to turn around the goalkeeper but the latter recovered in time and denied the striker from concluding towards an open goal by clearing the ball to a corner.

32’ (0-2) Victoria doubled the score when Junior Conceicao Cabral passed on the edge of the area to Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva who netted with a low shot that surprised the goalkeeper.

39’ Xaghra’s goalie kept his side in contention when he turned to a corner with difficulty a shot from a good position inside the area by Emerson Zammit.

41’ The Wanderers could have added another goal when Xaghra’s defence failed to clear the ball from their area and Emerson Zammit took possession and turned around the goalkeeper but his attempt from an angled position with an open goal missed the target.

45’ (0-3) SK Victoria Wanderers scored their third goal when Junior Conceicao Cabral passed inside Xaghra’s area and concluded in goal with a low shot towards the far post.

Second Half

For the second period, Xaghra tried to increase their efforts in an attempt to reduce the deficit but the Wanderers managed to defend well and denied their opponents from re-opening the issue so that they made sure of the win by scoring two more goals near the end of the encounter.

3’ Xaghra were dangerous through an attempt by Johann Bajada from a good position that ended wide.

15’ Victoria’s goalie Adrian Parnis was called to make a good save to turn to a corner a strike from outside the area by Camilo Andres Diaz Arias.

18’ Xaghra kept insisting and tried to surprise their opponents through a shot from outside the area by substitute Michael Bezzina, but goalie Adrian Parnis was well-placed and neutralised the danger without difficulty.

32’ Victoria’s goalie was again called to save an attempt directly from a free kick by Chris Camilleri.

34’ Xaghra were again dangerous through a cross-shot by substitute Luke Sultana that was turned with difficulty to a corner by goalie Adrian Parnis.  Rom the resultant corner action the Wanderers cleared badly but in the end, the attempt by Leiner Grcia Panesso was weak and a neutraliser by the goalkeeper.

37’ (0-4) The Wanderers sealed the win when Junior Conceicao Cabral entered Xaghra’s territory with a counterbreak from the right flank and from his lob aimed towards an open goal Caique Silvio Souza Da Silva pushed the ball across the fatal line.

40’ (0-5) SK Victoria Wanderers added another goal as Xaghra’s defence failed to clear the ball from the edge of the area and substitute Joseph Saliba took advantage and placed into an open goal with a low drive.
