Nadur Youngsters had a positive start in the second round of the championship and earned three deserved points from a 4-0 win over Ghajnsielem.  This was an important match for the two sides who both came out for this match with the ambition to obtain the win as Nadur needed to maintain their position with the top teams on the table while Ghajnsielem needed to consolidate their improvement registered in their previous matches and tried to take revenge for the defeats conceded against Nadur in the final of the BOV GFA Cup and in the match from Match-Day 1 of the championship.

For this match, the two teams had regular players who were missing. Nadur were without Marcelo Barbosa and Gennaro Hili due to injuries and Stefan Cassar due to suspension, while Ghajnsielem had Bruno Da Cruz missing due to suspension.  However, Nadur came out more aggressive for this encounter and practically made sure of the win by scoring three goals in the opening half-hour of play.  Ghajnsielem were demoralised and they never managed to stage a reaction so that the outcome of the encounter was never in contention.  The four goals from Nadur came from four different players who scored their first goals this season, and it was also a special occasion for youngster Matthias Said who scored his first goal in the top flight in Gozitan football.

Timeline:

Nadur dominated play throughout the first period and they not only scored three goals but they created also various other scoring opportunities so that the Youngsters could have entered the break in the lead with a larger margin.  Ghajnsielem were shocked when they conceded the first goal and they found 9t extremely difficult to create some danger towards Nadur’s goal.

1’ (0-1) Nadur had an excellent start and opened the score in their first offensive action that arrived after 24 seconds when Marcelo Pereira Muniz passed outside the area to Joseph Mario Vella who concluded in goal with a fine strike.

4’ Nadur were again dangerous through an effort by Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio who entered Ghajnsielem’s area, passed by two defenders but was denied from concluding towards the goal with a timely intervention by defender Marco Ciangura.

9’ Nadur’s Brandon Said could have added another goal when he arrived on the ball before goalie Luke Buttigieg but missed the moment to convert into an open goal and the ball ended wide.

16’ Ghajnsielem replied with a shot by Godwin Emmanuel that was saved by Nadur’s goalie Steve Sultana.

18’ Nadur went again close to score but a shot from a good position by Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio ended wide.

19’ (goal disallowed) The same Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio delivered a cross inside Ghajnsielem’s area which was prolonged by Junior Adenilson Ferreira Dos Santos and Brandon Said headed in the net from a close distance but the goal was disallowed for offside.

20’ (0-2) Nadur doubled their lead when Matthias Said took the ball following a wrong clearance by Ghajnsielem’s defence and surprised the goalkeeper with a low shot aimed towards the far post.

27’Ghajsnielem could have created more danger but a shot from a good position by Damon Hili ended wide.

29’ (0-3) Nadur scored their third goal following an initiative by Gianluca Muscat who entered Ghajnielem’s area from the right flank and from his cross, Brandon Said headed in goal from close distance.

37’ Ghajnsielem’s goalie Luke Buttigieg was called to make an important save to block a shot by Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio after receiving from Marcelo Pereira Muniz.

39’ The Blacks could have reduced the deficit when a good shot by Damon Hili got a deflection and the ball ended in the corner.

45+1’ Nadur were again dangerous through a shot by Joseph Mario Vella but goalie Luke Buttigieg was well placed and blocked the danger.

HT (0-3)

Second Half

The match lost much of interest after the break with very few opportunities on goal as Nadur retained their territorial supremacy while Ghajnsielem did not manage to conclude any offensive actions towards Nadur’s keeper.

12’ (0-4) Nadur practically sealed the win by scoring the fourth goal that arrived from a corner kick by Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio that arrived to Ian Xuereb who headed in a goal from a close distance.

20’ Nadur could have scored another goal but a shot by Joao Vitor De Oliveira Florencio ended wide.
