Sannat Lions had an excellent start in the third and final round of the BOV Gozo Football League of the second division as they registered an impressive 6-0 win over St Lawrence Spurs.  With the points obtained Sannat are sharing the leadership with Victoria Hotspurs although the latter have a game on hand.  The main protagonist in this large win was undoubtedly Sannat’s striker Boubacar Kanta who scored the six goals of the encounter and reached 16 personal goals in the league so that he is now just one goal away from the current Top-Scorer of the category Wellington Valentim De Souza of Victoria Hotspurs.

This was a tricky match for the challengers for promotion Sannat Lions as they were coming from a hard-earned win in their previous match of the campaign, while St Lawrence were confident as they registered a series of positive results in their previous matches which saw them moving away from the bottom place on the table up to the fourth place.  However, the Spurs probably came to this match with some overconfidence and ended up conceding Sannat’s play throughout the 90 minutes.  Sannat managed to impose their superiority throughout the encounter and the final score reflects the difference between the two sides in this match.

Timeline:

Sannat were very prudent during the opening minutes of the match and avoided the risk of compromising their ambitions at an early stage.  Sannat opened the score in their first serious attempt towards St Lawrence’s goal, neutralised St Lawrence’s reaction and doubled their lead before the end of the first half so that they took the break with a comfortable cushion.

9’ (1-0) Sannat opened the score through a header by Boubacar Kanta following a corner kick by Jamie Xerri with the ball bouncing in front of the goalkeeper and ended in the net.

15’ St Lawrence replied through a free kick by Jurgen Mario Portelli but the ball ended just over the crossbar.

20’ Sannat’s goalie Kyle Attard had good timing when he left his position in time to block a close-ranged attempt by Victor John Saliba who was unmarked inside the area.

41’ (2-0) Sannat doubled their lead when substitute Paul Said released Boubacar Kanta inside St Lawrence’s area and the striker netted with a low drive as the goalkeeper left his position in an attempt to block the danger.

HT (2-0)

Second Half

Sannat maintained their momentum from the opening stages of the second period and practically made sure of the three points by scoring three other goals in the space of a few minutes.  Sannat’s striker Boubacar Kanta continued to express his excellent moment of form and distinguished himself by scoring all the goals of the encounter.

2’ (3-0) Sannat increased their lead at an early stage of the second period with another goal by Boubacar Kanta.

3’ (4-0) Sannat’s Boubacar Kanta continued to be a continuous threat within St Lawrence’s territory and added another goal to put the score beyond the reach of their opponents.

9’ (5-0) St Lawrence was demoralised and ended up conceding the fifth goal that arrived through Boubacar Kanta.

35’ (6-0) Sannat sealed the win and made it a half a dozen with another goal scored by Boubacar Kanta.
