Nadur Youngsters kicked off their league campaign with a hard-earned point after holding SK Victoria Wanderers to a 2-2 draw in the opening match from Match-Day 2 of the BOV Gozo Football League First Division.

The Wanderers looked on course for victory after overturning Nadur’s early second-half lead, but a superb late strike from Pedrinho ensured that the Youngsters avoided defeat.

With this result, Nadur opened their season on a positive note. At the same time, SK Victoria Wanderers registered their second draw in as many matches, missing out on the chance to climb into the early leading positions in the standings at this early stage of the championship.

The encounter was fiercely contested, with little to separate the sides in the opening half. Nadur took the initiative after the break, only for the Wanderers to rally back and turn the match in their favour. But Nadur’s persistence was rewarded right at the death, salvaging a point dramatically.

Timeline

First Half

Both teams came out aggressively in the opening minutes, creating chances that could have led to an early breakthrough on either side. As time went on, however, they became more cautious, with play concentrated in midfield and the first half ending goalless.

7’ Victoria threatened from a corner, but Lee Cutler’s header finished wide.

9’ Nadur responded immediately, but Joseph Xerri’s effort after a corner was blocked to another corner.

10’ Nadur created danger again as Murilo Spirandelli’s header from the left missed the target.

12’ Victoria goalkeeper Samuel Camilleri pulled off a difficult save to deny Pedrinho’s low drive from outside the box.

16’ Victoria’s Jose Wilkson broke through on the left, but his effort was blocked for a corner by Johnny Wesley.

34’ Pedrinho advanced on a solo run, but his low strike was diverted to a corner by Camilleri.

Second Half

Nadur came out stronger after the break, taking the lead and growing in confidence. The Wanderers, however, recovered well, equalised, and then managed to go ahead. Nadur responded with intensity in the closing stages and was rewarded with a superb strike to secure a point.

49’ Nadur’s Brandon Said broke free inside the area but shot over from a good position.

50’ (1-0) Nadur opened the scoring when Pedrinho set up Joseph Xerri, who anticipated the goalkeeper’s movement and finished calmly into the net.

61’ (1-1) Victoria levelled when Diego Garcia crossed from the right and Jose Wilkson rose well to head home.

73’ Victoria’s Diego Garcia tested Wesley with a low drive after a solo move, but the goalkeeper saved well to a corner.

74’ (1-2) From the same corner, Nadur’s defence failed to clear properly and substitute Sam Harland’s low strike was deflected, allowing Andre Cutler to finish from close range.

82’ Nadur pushed back, and Pedrinho’s free kick was saved with difficulty by Samuel Camilleri.

85’ Victoria missed another chance to kill the game when Diego Garcia broke forward, but his low shot was too central and easily saved.

86’ Nadur substitute Matthias Mercieca went close, but his effort from distance went over.

87’ Pedrinho tried again with a solo effort from outside the area but shot wide.

90’ (2-2) Nadur grabbed a late equaliser when Pedrinho unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the box, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper as the ball flew into the corner of the net.

90+3’ Victoria almost snatched the win at the death, but Matthias Cordina’s free kick was pushed out for a corner by Wesley.
