Kercem Ajax secured a 4–0 victory over Ghajnsielem in a direct clash at the top of the table, maintaining first place and extending their lead over their rivals to five points.

The match was played in difficult conditions due to strong winds, which limited both teams’ ability to express quality football. Nevertheless, Kercem appeared more disciplined and enjoyed greater possession. Despite their superiority, they remained patient and eventually broke the deadlock before half-time. This allowed them to manage the game effectively in the second half, where they added three more goals to comfortably secure all three points. Once again, Kercem’s defence stood out, conceding virtually no clear-cut opportunities, making the victory fully deserved.

Timeline

First Half:

Kercem took control in midfield despite playing against the wind in the opening period, which meant that serious goalmouth action was limited during the first half.

22’ Ghajnsielem threatened when Deison Cuero advanced into the box, but under pressure he failed to connect properly and the goalkeeper saved comfortably.

23’ (Disallowed goal) Kercem came close when Gabriel Vella’s shot was blocked by goalkeeper Richard Sammut. Andre Martins converted the rebound, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

25’ Ghajnsielem missed another opportunity when Ewertton Tom played the ball into the box to Atem Jok, but the Australian forward failed to make proper contact from a good position and the defence cleared.

36’ (1–0) Kercem opened the scoring from a corner taken by Nenem. Defender Mateus Lima anticipated the defence and headed home.

42’ Kercem nearly doubled their lead, but Nenem failed to connect following a low cross by Samuel Azzopardi.

44’ Ghajnsielem responded with a long-range effort by Atem Jok, but Kercem goalkeeper Franklin Vella dealt with it comfortably.

HT (1-0)

Second Half:

In the second half, Kercem maintained control of the match while Ghajnsielem struggled to create opportunities in search of an equaliser. Kercem capitalised on their chances to secure a convincing win.

50’ Kercem produced a good move, but from Nenem’s cross, Andre Martins failed to make contact with a header from a promising position.

62’ (2–0) Kercem doubled their lead when Andre Martins headed home from another corner delivered by Nenem.

67’ Kercem almost added another goal after a scramble in front of goal, but the defence eventually cleared for a corner.

74’ (3–0) Kercem extended their advantage when a free-kick by Andre Martins was partially saved by Richard Sammut. Substitute Nathaniel Mercieca reacted quickly to the rebound and finished into the corner.

77’ Ghajnsielem had their best chance for a consolation goal, but Atem Jok’s shot was saved by Franklin Vella.

90+1’ (4–0) Kercem sealed the victory with a fourth goal when Andre Martins set up substitute Andrew Mizzi, who finished from close range.
