Ghajnsielem consolidated second place in the league standings after earning three points with a 2–1 victory over Qala Saints. With this result, Ghajnsielem also made amends for the two defeats they had suffered against Qala in the first two rounds of the championship.

Both teams entered the match with no pressure for points, but Ghajnsielem and Qala were keen to claim a positive result in order to finish the league campaign on a high note. In addition, Qala were also looking to maintain their momentum ahead of the BOV GFA Cup final, which will be played after the conclusion of the league season.

As a result, the match developed into an entertaining contest. Ghajnsielem opened the scoring early against the run of play, but Qala responded well and, after restoring parity, both sides created several good scoring opportunities. Ultimately, the match was decided by a goal scored by Ghajnsielem in the opening stages of the second half. Despite the final result remaining in doubt until the end, Ghajnsielem managed to defend its slim advantage and held on for the win.

Timeline

First Half:

Qala started the match more aggressively, but Ghajnsielem took the lead from a penalty, making the game lively—especially after Qala responded within minutes to level the score.

1’ Qala almost opened the scoring after just 35 seconds, but Gabriel Cardona’s shot was weak and comfortably saved by the Ghajnsielem goalkeeper.

6’ Qala threatened again through a Joseph Zammit free kick, which went over the bar.

9’ (0–1) Ghajnsielem opened the scoring from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Owen Attard fouled Jhon Gonzalez in the box, and Ewertton Tom converted confidently from eleven metres.

14’ (1–1) Qala responded immediately and equalised when Junior Sergipe beat two defenders to the ball and finished low into the net.

17’ Qala goalkeeper Owen Attard made a good save to deny Ewertton Tom.

20’ Ghajnsielem came close again as Ewertton Tom set up Jhon Gonzalez, whose effort from a good position went wide.

28’ Qala replied with a dangerous effort by Gilberto Carrara, but the ball missed the target.

29’ Ghajnsielem goalkeeper Gabriel Parnis rushed off his line in time to block Gabriel Cardona inside the box.

30’ Ghajnsielem failed to capitalise on another opportunity as Ewertton Tom fired wide from close range.

34’ (post) Qala were unlucky when a shot by Gabriel Cardona struck the post with the goalkeeper beaten, with protests that the ball had crossed the line.

36’ Qala threatened again through Joseph Zammit, whose shot went high.

37’ Qala wasted a good opportunity when Ibrahim Mohammed won possession from the defence but fired low wide of the target.

39’ Qala created another dangerous move as Ibrahim Mohammed crossed into the box, but central defender James Tabone Refalo cleared for a corner just in time to deny Gabriel Cardona.

43’ Ghajnsielem threatened from a corner when Alberto Xuereb’s shot was blocked, and from the resulting corner taken by Ewertton Tom, Deison Cuero headed over the bar.

HT (1-1)

Second Half:

The game remained balanced in the second half, but after Ghajnsielem regained the lead, Qala appeared demoralised and struggled to find a way back into the match.

2’ Ghajnsielem goalkeeper Gabriel Parnis made a good save to deny Joseph Zammit, pushing the ball out for a corner.

11’ Ghajnsielem responded through Jhon Gonzalez, whose effort was saved by Qala substitute goalkeeper Jayden Sciberras.

12’ (1–2) Ghajnsielem restored their lead when Jhon Gonzalez managed to score despite being challenged by two defenders and the goalkeeper.

36’ Parnis was again called into action, saving another effort by Joseph Zammit and conceding a corner.

37’ Qala came close to equalising when Gilberto Carrara’s effort was cleared for a corner by central defender James Tabone Refalo.

45+2’ Qala had their final chance to salvage a point, but Jordi Parnis fired wide from a promising position.
