Sannat Lions scored a goal in each half and obtained three precious points from their match against SK Victoria Wanderers. This was the fourth match in the championship for the two sides and both teams were aiming to obtain a win for different reasons. Sannat were coming from a convincing win in their previous match and needed the points to increase their gap over the teams in the red zone while the Wanderers were aiming to win their first points after three defeats in their first three matches in the championship. With this result Sannat earned their second consecutive win and confirmed their good moment of form. The Lions now gained a mid-table position with a good lead over the other teams who are at the bottom of the table.
In this match Sannat saw more of the ball and produced more offensive play. They held command of the midfield for long stretches where Milos Perisic and Damon Hili distinguished themselves with their continuous contribution to recover the ball and to support the strikers Brandon Said and Joseph Zammit so that Victoria’s rear guard was very often under pressure. On the other hand the Wanderers struggled to resist to Sannat’s play but managed to remain in contention, at least for a positive result, until the dying seconds. The match also ended on a controversial note as the Wanderers protested for a penalty seconds from the end of the match and also had a player who was sent off after the final whistle for protests.

Sannat were more aggressive form the very first minutes of play and produced dangous actions inside Victoria’s area.
2’ A header by Joseph Zammit following a cross by Mario Mifsud ended just over the crossbar.
7’ A curling shot by Damon Hili from a good position ended wide.
9’ Victoria’s keeper Giacomo Ratto was well placed to neutralise a close ranged shot by Brandon Said.
10’ The same goalkeeper managed to save the ball on the fatal line as defender David Udo Monday hit badly in an attempt to clear the ball from a corner action and avoided an own goal.
11’ SK Victoria Wanderers protested for a penalty alleging handling by Sannat’s defence in an attempt to clear the ball from their area.
12’ Victoria had another attempt through a free kick from long distance by Kersten Grima that ended away from goal.
14’ (1-0) Sannat opened the score when Joseph Zammit took the ball in the midfield and entered Victoria’s area with a personal action so that the striker netted with a low drive as the goalkeeper left his position in an attempt to block the danger.
Sannat tried to administer play in the midfield but as time passed by the Wanderers managed to share more play.
23’ (1-1) SK Victoria Wanderers levelled the score when Sam Harland unmarked Gabriel Cardona on the left hand side of Sannat’s area and the latter placed in goal with a low shiot.
36’ Sannat replied with a free kick by Damon Hili that ended high.
Sannat regained command of play near the end of the first half.
40’ A shot by Sannat’s Milos Perisic from a good position was weak and Victoria’s keeper saved without difficulty.
42’ The same goalkeeper Giacomo Ratto was again called to make an important intervention to save to a corner a shot by Brandon Said who took the ball from a bad clearance by Victoria’s defence.
44’ SK Victoria Wanderers could have capitalised better when Emerson Zammit released Sam Harland inside Sannat’s area but the latter hesitate to conclude and the defence managed to recover and cleared the ball to a corner.
45+1’ Sannat were again dangerous through a shot by Milos Perisic from an angled position that was again saved by Victoria’s goalie.

Sannat maintained their momentum from the initial stages of the second period.
1’ (2-1) Sannat regained the lead and score the goal that decided the issue after just 24 seconds of play into the second period when Joseph Zammit headed towards Brandon Said and the latter entered the area and placed in goal with a low shot that ended out of the reach of Victoria’s keeper
Sannat kept insisting and continued to be the better side on the field of play.
13’ Sannat’s Joseph Zammit entered Victoria’s area from the left flank and from his low cross a shot on the run by Brandon Said ended high.
15’ The Wanderers replied through an initiative by Emerson Zammit who released Gabriel Cardona and the latter entered the area but his shot from an ideal position was weak and goalie Lorjean Xuereb saved the danger without difficulty.
25’ Victoria’s keeper was again called to make a good save following a strike by Damon Hili.
26’ The Wanderers lost a golden scoring opportunity but Sam Harland failed to hit towards goal from close distance following a cross by substitute Owen Fenech and the goalkeeper saved the danger to a corner.
27’ A good shot by Damon Hili was partially saved by Victoria’s goalie Giacomo Ratto and from the rebound Brandon Said placed in the net but the goal was disallowed for an offside infringement.
33’ Victoria’s Sam Harland failed to connect following a free kick form long distance by Kersten Grima.
39’ Sannat were again dangerous through a shot from outside the area by Damon Hili that ended just wide.
45+3’ SK Victoria Wanderers protested for a penalty when Audgustine James Obaje passed through Sannat’s defence near the goal-line and from his cross the ball hit the hands of defender Joseph Buttigieg but the referee did not notice any infringement and the match ended seconds later.
(red card) The Wanderers continued with their protests after the final whistle and on the way back to the dressing rooms Victoria had Nicholas Vella who was shown a red card.
