St Lawrence Spurs missed the opportunity to remain alone at the top of the standings when they were held by bottom-placed Munxar Falcons, earning only a point from a 1-1 draw.

In this match, Munxar dictated play throughout the first half and deservedly took the lead, but failed to convert their dominance into more goals. St Lawrence responded in the second half and managed to score the equaliser midway through the half, but they appeared confused and could not turn the result in their favour, despite Munxar being reduced to nine men in the closing minutes.

Timeline

First Half:

Munxar started on the attack and for much of the half kept pressure on the defence, so St Lawrence rarely troubled the opposing goalkeeper.

36’ (0-1) Munxar took the lead when, from an Emmanuel Galea free kick, St Lawrence defender Christian Grima misheaded the ball in an attempt to clear and committed an own goal.

HT (0-1)

Second Half:

St Lawrence came out more determined in an attempt to overturn the result and were much more dangerous than their opponents, but were erratic in their finishing, and after recovering the deficit, failed to find the goal that could have given them the win.

20’ Munxar goalkeeper Gabriel Saliba made a difficult save, turning away a shot from Felipe Augusto for a corner.

23’ (1-1) St Lawrence equalised with a direct free kick from Felipe Augusto that gave the goalkeeper no chance to intercept.

27’ (red card) Munxar were reduced to ten men when Oliver Curmi was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul in midfield.

35’ Munxar goalkeeper Gabriel Saliba again denied St Lawrence, turning away a long-range shot from substitute Charlon Farrugia for a corner.

45+3’ (red card) Munxar finished the match with nine men when substitute Paul Vella was sent off for retaliating against an opponent in midfield.
