SK Victoria Wanderers secured their second consecutive league victory with a commanding 5–1 win over Xewkija Tigers, strengthening their hold on fifth place and keeping a comfortable distance from the relegation zone. For Xewkija, this result not only mathematically ended their challenge for the league title, but it also put their second-place position at serious risk.

From the outset, the Wanderers appeared more motivated, while Xewkija made several changes to their typical formation. In the end, Victoria’s victory was fully deserved. The Wanderers were the more adventurous side during the first half, building a two-goal lead. In the second half, they allowed no comeback opportunities and sealed the match with additional goals late in the game.

The match was also significant for two Victoria players: defender Andre Cutler was appearing in the league shortly after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Puerto Rico national team, while striker Mustapha Amodu scored his first hat-trick since joining SK Victoria Wanderers.

Timeline

First Half:

Victoria started the match strongly, creating better scoring opportunities and taking a two-goal lead. Xewkija responded with sporadic attacks and managed to reduce the deficit, but once the Wanderers regained control, they restored their two-goal cushion before halftime.

3’ Victoria’s first attempt came through Emerson Zammit, whose shot went over the bar.

8’(protests for penalty) Victoria protested for a penalty when Mustapha Amodu went down in the box under a challenge from Denzil Bugeja.

14’ Xewkija goalkeeper Nikola Kosanin saved an effort from Owen Fenech.

15’ Xewkija came close when Abou Toure set up Matthias Said, whose powerful shot was tipped into a corner by Samuel Camilleri.

16’ Matthias Bonnici delivered a cross from the right, but Abou Toure’s header finished over the bar.

17’ Victoria goalkeeper Samuel Camilleri saved an Ian Xuereb header, keeping the match level.

18’ (1–0) Victoria took the lead when Ender Vielma intercepted a back pass and, from a tight angle, finished low into the net.

25’ Xewkija threatened again, but Josiah Buttigieg’s effort went wide.

28’ (2–0) Victoria doubled their lead when substitute Sam Harland delivered a cross, and Nicolas Orozco beat the goalkeeper in the air to head home.

31’ (2–1) Xewkija reacted quickly: from a Matthias Bonnici corner, a first header by Ian Xuereb was saved, and from the second corner, taken by Claudio Frances, Manuel Bustos headed into the net.

41’ Mustapha Amodu found space in the box from a Matthias Cordina pass but sent his shot wide.

43’ Amodu forced another save from Kosanin with a close-range effort.

44’ (3–1) Victoria restored their two-goal lead when Ender Vielma squared the ball to Mustapha Amodu, who calmly finished low past the goalkeeper.

45+2’ Victoria’s Ender Vielma headed over from a Matthias Cordina free kick.

HT (3-1)

Second Half:

The second period saw fewer dangerous opportunities as Xewkija struggled to mount a meaningful reaction. Victoria gradually took full control and sealed the points with two late goals.

8’ A dangerous cross by Victoria’s substitute Sam Harland forced Manuel Bustos to clear just ahead of Matthias Cordina, preventing a certain goal.

27’ Xewkija’s best chance of the half came through a central effort from Matthias Said, comfortably saved by Samuel Camilleri.

39’ (4–1) Victoria extended their lead as Mustapha Amodu headed in from a Matthias Cordina free kick.

40’ (5–1) Victoria wrapped up the win when Mustapha Amodu received the ball inside the box, evaded the oncoming goalkeeper and defenders, and placed the ball into an empty net.
