In the first match from the third and final round of the First Division championship, Kercem Ajax strengthened their position at the top of the table by earning three points through a 4–0 victory over SK Victoria Wanderers. This was Kercem’s seventh consecutive league win, confirming the excellent form that has established them as the main favourites to achieve their ambition of becoming Gozo football champions for only the second time in the club’s history.

Kercem showed their superiority throughout the entire ninety minutes and practically secured the win with three goals scored in the first half. The Wanderers attempted to provide resistance against the league leaders, but they struggled significantly in attack and, above all, committed defensive errors that allowed Kercem to build a comfortable early advantage.

Timeline

First Half:

The opening minutes saw balanced play, with potential chances on both sides. However, once Kercem opened the scoring, the Wanderers appeared shaken, allowing their opponents to score twice more before halftime.

3’ Kercem goalkeeper Franklin Vella reacted well to clear a shot by Matthias Cordina, following a short corner.

6’ In response, Kercem created danger when Ryan Saliba delivered a cross into the box, but Andre Martins’ header was central and saved comfortably.

18’ (0–1) Kercem opened the scoring through a free-kick from Gabriel Vella that deceived goalkeeper Samuel Camilleri and finished in the net.

21’ Kercem remained threatening with a low shot by Andre Martins that went wide.

25’ Victoria replied with a direct attempt from a corner by Matthias Cordina, but the effort drifted wide.

27’ Cordina tried again from outside the box, but the ball sailed over the bar.

30’ Victoria goalkeeper Samuel Camilleri was forced into action to push away a free-kick from Nenem.

34’ (0–2) Kercem doubled their lead after Victoria’s defence failed to clear under pressure, allowing Andre Martins to intercept the goalkeeper’s loose pass and score into an empty net.

36’ (0–3) The Wanderers appeared demoralised, and Kercem capitalised with another goal — a lob from a tight angle by Gabriel Vella following a personal run.

43’ Camilleri denied Kercem a fourth goal by turning away a close-range header from Nenem after a cross by Antonio Xuereb.

HT (0–3)

Second Half:

The second half saw less intensity as Kercem managed their comfortable lead while Victoria Wanderers, despite some forward movement, never truly threatened to overturn the deficit. Kercem eventually sealed the win with a late fourth goal.

2’ Victoria created early danger, but a close-range effort from Nicolas Orozco went wide.

4’ Another opportunity for Victoria saw a cross-shot from Mustafa Amodu sail over the bar.

12’ Kercem remained dangerous through a good effort by Gabriel Vella, but the ball was deflected for a corner.

19’ Victoria tried again with a shot from Emerson Zammit, though it missed the target.

23’ Victoria’s Aaron Touarha attempted a direct free-kick, but it finished off target.

34’ (0–4) Kercem sealed the victory with a low close-range finish by substitute Lorenzo Atzori, who had entered at the start of the second half.

36’ Victoria came close to a consolation goal when a header by Andre Cutler passed across the face of goal, but substitute Nicholas Grech failed to connect.
