Nadur Youngsters made a positive start to the 2026/2027 season by earning a 2-0 win over Munxar Falcons in a Second Division Knock-Out fixture. This was the first match of the season for both teams, who are both looking to make up for the disappointment they experienced last season, with Nadur having been relegated while Munxar struggled to be competitive in the previous Second Division campaign.
The match developed into an interesting encounter, with each side enjoying superiority for one half. Munxar failed to make the most of the advantage they enjoyed during the first half, while Nadur were more determined after the interval and scored the two goals that decided the contest.
Timeline
First Half:
The first half was hard-fought, with both Munxar and Nadur trying to take command of the match. Munxar enjoyed more possession, while Nadur were more direct in their attacking play, but both defences remained alert and the forwards found few opportunities to test the goalkeepers.
15’ Munxar created the first scoring opportunity, but Emanuel Galea’s shot from a good position was saved by goalkeeper Zak Vella, and the defence completed the clearance.
24’ Munxar were dangerous again through a Matyas Jenik free kick, but the ball went wide.
30’ Nadur came closest to scoring through Neil Mifsud, but his effort went wide.
45’ Munxar had the best chance of the half when Mohammed Doughmi made good progress, but his curling shot was saved for a corner by goalkeeper Zak Vella.

Second Half:
The pattern of the match initially remained the same after the break, but Nadur gradually began to push further out of defence and became more dangerous as the half progressed. They scored twice midway through the half and, for the remainder of the match, were able to contain a weak reaction from their opponents.
5’ Munxar could have made better use of a promising move when Kenny Hili released Mohammed Doughmi, who entered the area, but goalkeeper Zak Vella came off his line in time to block the danger.
6’ Nadur responded immediately, but Sylvan Xuereb’s shot went wide.
7’ Munxar goalkeeper Omar Xuereb was alert and saved Matthias Mercieca’s central effort.
23’ (0-1) Nadur opened the scoring when Sylvan Xuereb picked out Kurt Xuereb, who anticipated the goalkeeper’s advance and placed a low shot into the net.
27’ (0-2) Nadur doubled their lead when Junior Claudir Marini rose well to meet Neil Mifsud’s cross and headed the ball into the net.
45+2’ Munxar could have reduced the deficit, but Justin Formosa’s shot from a good position was blocked by goalkeeper Zak Vella.
