Oratory Youths confirmed their excellent start to the season by claiming their second consecutive win in the Second Division Knock-Out competition, defeating St Lawrence Spurs 7-3. The result enabled Oratory to live up to expectations as the main favourites for honours in the category this season.
This was St Lawrence’s first match of the season and they appeared to still need time to find better form in order to be more competitive in the division. Oratory effectively paved the way for this result with three goals during the first half, before taking advantage of the spaces St Lawrence left in defence after the interval as they tried to recover the score. Oratory went on to secure the victory with four further goals in the second half.
Timeline
First Half:
Oratory stunned St Lawrence in the opening stages of the match by scoring twice. As time went on, St Lawrence tried to respond, but they did little to seriously trouble the opposing goalkeeper.
12’ (0-1) Oratory opened the scoring through a close-range finish by Lucas Barcik after the defence failed to clear a cross from the right.
21’ (0-2) Oratory doubled their lead when Dalton Pereira surprised the goalkeeper with a shot from outside the area.
45’ (0-3) Oratory extended their advantage with another finish from Dalton Pereira.
45+2’ (1-3) penalty St Lawrence reduced the deficit when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Charlon Farrugia, and Wesley Simeao beat the goalkeeper from the spot.

Second Half:
St Lawrence tried to force their way back into the match, but after scoring their second goal they compromised their chances of salvaging the result by leaving spaces in defence. Oratory capitalised and scored four unanswered goals.
1’ St Lawrence were dangerous through a Jake Saliba effort, but goalkeeper Etienne Bajada saved with difficulty for a corner.
15’ (2-3) St Lawrence got back into the game when Wesley Simeao reduced the gap to one goal with a direct free kick.
27’ (2-4) Oratory restored a comfortable lead when Lucas Barcik released Damon Hili, who beat the goalkeeper with a shot from a good position.
32’ (2-5) Oratory scored another goal, this time directly from a free kick by Jason Pace.
36’ (2-6) In another Oratory move, substitute Sean Attard received the ball inside the area and found the net with a low shot to increase the advantage.
41’ (2-7) Oratory scored their seventh goal through a low strike by substitute Gean Dias.
42’ (3-7) St Lawrence scored their third goal when Gabriel Debrincat finished from a good position.
