In the direct clash between the two teams that were joint leaders before this match, Sannat Lions earned a 3–0 victory over St Lawrence Spurs, opening a three-point lead at the top of the standings with one match remaining for both sides.

The match lived up to expectations in front of a large crowd at the Kercem Stadium. For much of the encounter the result remained uncertain, but Sannat scored two late goals to make it difficult for St Lawrence to rescue the match. In this crucial fixture, Sannat showed greater experience in handling matches of this level. They set the tone early with a strong start, took the lead, and managed the game well, remaining composed even when St Lawrence applied pressure early in the second half.

St Lawrence were missing defender Keith Borg due to suspension and forward Felipe Augusto, who was absent for the second consecutive match because of injury. On the other hand, Sannat striker Igor Nedeljkovic played despite not being fully fit — and still emerged as the protagonist by scoring the two goals that sealed the decisive three points.

Timeline

First Half:

Sannat started aggressively and managed to take the lead, allowing them to control St Lawrence’s reaction. Clear scoring opportunities for both sides were rare.

8’ (1–0) Sannat opened the scoring through a long-range shot by David Galea that gave the goalkeeper no chance of saving.

12’ Sannat remained dangerous, but a low drive by Igor Nedeljkovic was saved by St Lawrence goalkeeper Joel Xuereb.

15’ St Lawrence responded with a free-kick attempt by Gabriel Debrincat, but the ball finished over the bar.

16’ Another St Lawrence effort saw a shot by Joel Xuereb miss the target.

HT (1–0)

Second Half:

St Lawrence increased their efforts after the interval in an attempt to recover the deficit, while Sannat focused on protecting their advantage. The match remained tightly contested for long stretches, but once Sannat doubled their lead, St Lawrence appeared demoralised and conceded further chances.

1’ St Lawrence created an early attempt through a long-range shot by Charlon Farrugia, but it went wide.

19’ Sannat goalkeeper Lorjean Xuereb produced an important save, blocking a header by Gabriel Debrincat following a cross from Ebube Raph Okpokwu.

20’ St Lawrence threatened again when the Sannat defence cleared poorly, but Joel Xuereb’s shot was deflected for a corner.

22’ St Lawrence missed a good chance when a header by Christian Grima from a corner went over the crossbar.

26’ Another opportunity for St Lawrence came through a left-wing cross by Gabriel Debrincat, but after controlling the ball, Joel Xuereb’s weak shot was easily saved.

29’ (2-0) Sannat doubled their lead when Igor Nedeljkovic received a ball from an unmarked position on the right flank, entered the area and placed the ball in the goal as St Lawrence’s goalie left his position in an attempt to block the danger.

33’ (3–0) Penalty Sannat secured the win after being awarded a penalty for a handball by defender Jurgen Attard following a shot by substitute Keiran Calleja. Igor Nedeljkovic converted from the spot, extending the lead.

44’ St Lawrence almost grabbed a consolation goal, but a long-range attempt by James Grima was turned into a corner by goalkeeper Lorjean Xuereb.
